==============================================================

Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Students and community members are being warned to keep a safe distance from a Michigan school pond, where an "alligator-type reptile" -- a caiman -- was spotted swimming.

Bedford Public Schools said a teacher spotted an "alligator-type reptile" swimming in the Biology Pond on the campus of Bedford Senior High School and Bedford Junior High School.

The district said experts identified the creature as a 3-foot caiman, a relative of the alligator.

Officials said arrangements are being made to remove the caiman from the pond, and students and community members are being warned to keep a safe distance from the water until the creature is relocated.

The district said caimans are not native to Michigan, but sometimes are kept as exotic pets.

Caimans are known for seeking cooler climes.

The Cayman Islands are named after the critters. It is just a different spelling. So if you want to buddy up with them, head south and swim.

Asylum laws protect it’s right to be here.

Perhaps cooler than what they might experience in South & Central America, but not Michigan. 8>)

It must be a Republican since it doesn’t look as dangerous as a Democrat.

A 3 foot alligator or cayman isactually a small animal as at that stage of growth it is mostly tail. When
i worked at a power plant in Florida as a security guard one of the things I had to do was shoo the gators off the parking lot at night.The grown ones didn’t go there and the babies of up to about 40 inches were silly looking because they were massive tails with very small bodies attached.

My daughter has to stop for bears occasionally. She rides a Honda Helix to work. She doesn’t worry about deer anymore since I put a deer whistle on her scoot. Those things work.
