Just getting around to my coffee. Thanks for the thread. Absolutely gorgeous weather here, except for the quasi tornado that went through Wednesday night. We had no power for almost a day. Sweated it out here as I kept adding ice to the fridge and freezer - all those garden veggies from this year but we are fine. Not much going on in the garden except for brussel sprouts and swiss chard, a few peppers and maybe if I am lucky a couple of more cukes. I started alfalfa sprouting which I do in the cold weather. This years garden has really helped me get back in shape. Now if I can just keep active through this next winter!
Still have some spinach seeds in my pocket. Maybe I'll plant a few.

P.S. Lost my usual 5 lbs gardening and 2 inches on my waist. Weigh all of 114 now.
Hello all fellow plant lovers from beautiful Mandeville Louisiana! All is green and the typical maintenance (vine cutting / tree and branch removal) is the norm here....rose bushes are doing VERY well even through the hot summer months and I look forward to a huge flowering this next season . Our farmers within the state are having very good yields with their crops ....starting to cool down a tad at night ....a beautiful time of year . I hope all here are having a good 2019 in the dirt !
Summer squash. I’m overrun with it and my neighbors are sick of receiving them as “gifts.” I make a nice casserole with it but it is too hot to make soup with it. Grrrrr!
Wow Congrats! Happy harvest. I’m heading out shortly to see what’s in the garden.
All great news from Louisiana. I am in west Michigan which has a much shorter season.
Summer squash. Always a dilemma on what to do with them. I did not plant any this year. I always enjoy a few on the grill during the summer and have bought them. I could use one this weekend!
Several years ago we experimented with growing early potatoes. We live along the Canadian border in central ND where the earliest we can plant is usually May.
What we did was take gallon plastic ice cream pails and line them with burlap. Then filled the pail with garden soil. In each pale was planted a seed potato. This was done about a month before planting time.
What we did come planting time was to carefully pull the potted potato plant from the pail by pulling on the overhanging burlap. The burlap, dirt and plant were then placed in a hole about the same size and shape as the pail.
The burlap stayed in the ground. The potato root runners went right through the burlap. We had new potatoes long before anyone else did. The burlap rotted into non-existence.
We love new potato soup made from fresh dug baby potatoes the size of a golf ball or smaller.

Hi, bet you are super busy. I just finally finished my coffee and am headed out to tackle/prune a climbing rose, pull weeds around it and not damage the Egyptian walking onions planted near the base. It’s a mess. I’ve been procrastinating but I just have to get out there now.
Oh hell, I was 114 when I was 8 years old! LOL
Saturday - I raided the garden yesterday so I have enough tomatoes for a batch of plain Tomato Juice. With that I will make Tomato Jelly. I need to start pulling the spent plants in the garden and re-mulching everything for the winter. If I start now, it’ll be done by the time it NEEDS to be done. Still an abundance of KALE, so I’ll be dealing with that soon, but it keeps so well in the garden that it’s never a rush.
I also have to mow. I got started on it yesterday. It’s still too wet outside, so around 11am I should be able to hit it. :)
Beau’s Foster Son is here to do some more house painting this weekend. Yay! I’ll post a picture later of more progress. Happy, Happy! :)
The tomatoes are finally ripening! I will be freezing a bunch of them this afternoon. Peppers are finished. Bush beans are still producing. We seem to have killed our zucchini plant. And we will pick another 5 gallon bucket of apples today so I can freeze apple slices for pies.
