What REALLY irked Adolf Hitler about Ike: No, not the fact that Eisenhower was Supreme Commander

"This bizarrely conflicted view was even more pronounced in Hitler’s attitude towards the U.S. In World War I, Corporal Hitler had been given two captured American soldiers to escort back to his brigade HQ and he was appalled by the fact that the pair were of German descent.

From that moment on, Hitler was transfixed by the notion that the best of Germans had emigrated to the U.S. (attracted by the potential for self-realisation in its vastness) and that Germany should prove itself to be a mighty state that would persuade its ‘children’ to return.

Hitler would constantly complain that ‘American soil had been fertilised by Germans’ and that his historical mission was to reverse that process.

Simms points out: ‘In the late 1930s, he briefly experimented with a really quite grotesque plan for an international “exchange” of German-Americans for German Jews.’

As Simms writes: ‘The Fuhrer was aware that the supreme command of the Allied Expeditionary Force had been given to Dwight Eisenhower, descended from the Eisenhauers . . . who left the Saarland for Pennsylvania.’

Then there was General Clarence Huebner, General Walter Lauer, General Donald Stroh, General Paul Baade and General Bertram Hoffmeister — all from German emigrant families, leading the pulverisation of Hitler’s regime.

Many were Hungarian...such as Leo Szilard, Edward Teller, Dennis Gabor, and Elizabeth Rona to name but a few.

Germany did NOT “start WW I”; it started by the killing of the heir appatrnt to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Franz Ferdinand and his Morganistic wife, by nihilist Bosnian youths, aided and abetted by the Russians!

Yes, good people. I lived near Hutchinson, KS for 7 years and went to several of their church sausage dinners. On Sunday’s, the place was deserted....

“Germany, as a nation, didn’t exist until after 1871.”

As a people/culture they’ve existed since the time of the Frankish Empire circa 800 CE, through to the Holy Roman Empire (the original Reich), Austro-Hungarian Empire, Prussia, through to the founding of “Germany” and the German Empire (second Reich) in the 19th Century.

My Grandfather first came to America at age 15 from Germany. He farmed and met my German Grandmother in Nebraska. They went back after they married to see their families back in Germany. On the return trip Grandma was pregnant with the first child. The baby boy was born on the ship and sadly he died. They had a burial at sea for the baby.

They farmed until their deaths in Nebraska and had 7 more children: one was my Mother.

Trump’s grandfather came here and also avoided the German Army. After he made money and became a citizen, he tried to go back. They told him no, go back to your home...to our everlasting gain.

The two Germanic nations, Austria and Germany, were the first to declare war.

German almost became our national language in the 1800’s.

I didn’t know the part about his trying to return. Yes, I’m glad he didn’t make it back.

My grandfather was born here from German immigrant parents. and was in France during WW I. Since he was fluent in German, he was used to interrogate the captured Germans.

In the 1960 census, Walton County, Florida was 60% Scottish. Not Scotch Irish but pure Highland Scots.

I read a census of the Island of Colonsay which is part of the highlands, County of Argyle. This census was in 1741. There was not a single name which I did not recognize as my school mates, friends, neighbors. I mean you would find nearly every name from Colonsay in DeFuniak Sprimgs.

Commander of the 8th Air Force, General Carl Spaatz.

Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz.

America’s top shipbuilder in the war Henry Kaiser.

And about 1/4 of all Americans including my Oma (granny). Also including Donald Rumsfeld and Donald Trump.

Germans make great Americans - but lousy Germans.

He was a man who listened, and Omar Bradley was someone to listen to. In my manufacturing engineering career, I always remembered one of Ike’s favorite sayings. “ It’s amazing what you can get done if you don’t care who gets the credit.” I always gave my departmental or project credit to the workers. It’s amazing how much cooperation you can get by acknowledging others contributions. I also took the failures as my failure, and got the folks working with me to get things back on track by asking for their ideas and help. 1 brain and two eyes or 40 brains and 80 eyes. I know which way is more likely to be successful in solving problems.

nopardons: " Germany did NOT “start WW I”; it started by the killing of the heir appatrnt to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Franz Ferdinand and his Morganistic wife, by nihilist Bosnian youths, aided and abetted by the Russians!"

There's no historical evidence the Russians had anything to do with assassinating the Austrian Arch Duke.
But there are documents showing the Kaiser's High Command pushed Austrians into issuing an ultimatum to Serbia and then declaring war.

And the Kaiser knew what his people were doing.
He wanted a quick little war, to be over with before the Russians & French had time to respond -- a fait acompli.

Things didn't work out quite as planned...
