"The movie - hailed as 'the next Pearl Harbor'..."

That's all I needed to read before deciding not to see this movie when it comes out. 'Pearl Harbor' was a historically-inaccurate steaming pile of crap.

Same here. I wonder how this will be watered down and made politically correct? It’s modern day Hollywood, it’s inevitable.

Pearl Harbor has some real bloopers in it. There was a scene where you could see the USS Arizona Memorial the background of the shot!!!

Oh no. Please, God, stop Roland Emmerich from making any more films based on American history!

It’s an all female reboot.
With the quiet, peaceful Japanese repelling the brutish white male Americans.
Oprah will play Chelsea Nimitz.

I hate movies they depict officers and enlisted wearing dress uniforms in the middle of the ocean. Glove? Come on. In wartime and/or underway, working uniforms are worn and not necessarily the best ones at that.

Emmerich told Military.com: 'The first time I had the idea to do Midway, it was really like 20 years ago. I had a deal at Sony, but the movie didn't come together because the studio was owned by Japanese, so they were not very inclined to do a movie where they felt like the big losers of a battle'

*******

Hate to break it to the Japanese, and probably Emmerich, the Japanese WERE the big losers of this battle.

When you lose four fleet carriers, you're the big loser.

The 76 film seemed marred by the unneeded interplay between Heston and his son and his girl friend who was a jap. Other than that, it was a credible film.

The much better film simulations today should make this one far better.

Had the Japs taken out the dry docks and oil storage at Pearl, the war may have had a different ending. For sure, there would have not been a battle of midway, at least not in 42 IMO.

Sub-plots to look for:

Japanese interned in "concentration camps"

Homosexual pilot/officer somewhere on our side.

We provoked the Japanese into attacking.

The aviation battle scenes look animated and fake, like they were lifted from a video game. No thanks.

More from the article:

'I always wanted to tell them that I will not show the Japanese as losers. Decision-makers started this war. The Navy did not start the war.

I’m sure there’s going to be some cheesy subplots and a few PC “woke” bones tossed in but I’m still looking forward to seeing it.
