Oh my guess is that her capabilities (or lack thereof) were well known before she got the demo flight gig. PC is fine until someone’s ass is really on the line.

I have a vague memory that a Black member of the Thunderbirds asked to be taken off the team.
To his credit he did not think his skill was up to the job and did not want to endanger his team mates.
That posting above from the team’s “highly active” Facebook page made me angry.
What a load of PC crap.
It is pretty clear to me that there are a huge number of things impacting the Air Force’s oversight of this command, and sound operations, airmanship, and tactics are at the bottom of the list.
They found out that’s she’s heterosexual?
She had an Instagram account joking around with the son of Major John “Rain” Waters, the previous Viper demo pilot. AF guys know if such would be crossing some kind of fraternization line?
When ALL four of the Air Force Thunderbirds Diamond Demonstration Team died from crashing into the ground in practice way back when the Lead Pilot was a Man.

“Maj. Waters, last season’s Viper Demo pilot has resumed command, so the team is in great hands...”
So how did MAJ Waters get removed from command in the first place? Obviously he wasn’t relieved for cause or he wouldn’t have been put back in.
Was he told by his highers to step aside & make room for the first female Viper Demo commander in return for a positive OER, or warned that consequences would follow if he didn’t?
This altogether smells; somebody up the chain will have egg on his/her face over this. Is the female pilot still in Viper Demo flight & do the other pilots feel safe flying in close proximity with her?
I can't believe how often I see that grammatical error today. It's epidemic.
NOT GUILTY
While I have reservations about women in combat roles, I respect her decision to serve her country and imagine she was a hell of a pilot to get the position in the first place. It is truly tragic for her career, her personally and all her family that was certainly proud of her achievement especially with their own air shop and pilot heritage.
Thanks for your service young lady and I hope you overcome such a public event.
