Traces of faeces have been found on every single McDonald’s touchscreen swabbed in an investigation by metro.co.uk.
Samples were taken from the new machines that have been rolled out at restaurants across the country – every one of them had coliforms.
Senior lecturer in microbiology at London Metropolitan University Dr Paul Matawele said: ‘We were all surprised how much gut and faecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines. These cause the kind of infections that people pick up in hospitals.'
Unsuspecting diners choose their food on the touchscreens then head to the server to pick up their burgers more often than not without washing their hands.
A screen at one branch was found to have staphylococcus, a bacteria that can cause blood poisoning and toxic shock syndrome.
A McDonald’s spokesman said: ‘Our self-order screens are cleaned frequently throughout the day. All of our restaurants also provide facilities for customers to wash their hands before eating.’

Way back in the 80’s I used to stop by McDs in the mornings before work for a coffee and a McMuffin, but I cannot even remember the last time I was ever in one..............
The inside looks like every other fast food joint now. Generic and McSterile. Except for the touch screens, apparently. If I dropped you into any one of them after the brand logos were removed - McD’s, Wendy’s, Burger King - you wouldn’t know one from the other until you looked at the menu.
I can’t remember the last decade I went to a McDonalds — except to use the bathroom on long road trips. (I wash my hands.)
Where we live there’s a Hardee’s next door to McD’s and I go there. The founder seems to be on the Conservative side, and I’d rather support that place.
Hardee’s is our breakfast place!...................

LOL... At least in some locations. I used go one
where a group would gather every day. Some would
spend hours there. A couple of deaths, loss of
drivers license and squabbles broke the group up.
Time to put up a surveillance camera.

We still occasionally go to Wendy’s or BK, simply because they are literally up the street from our home....................
It seems like touchscreens wouldn’t be the most comfortable item to use to wipe your ass with.
In related news, trace amounts of McDonald’s food has been found on everything too.

Food handlers do not operate the customer touch screens and the screens are, in fact, designed to replace the cashiers who used to take orders and payment.
That’s aside from the fact that food preparers are trained to supposed standards for handwashing both in the restrooms and kitchen area. Plus some areas which require the use of gloves.
From what I hear it’s supposedly 100% culturally reinforced right handedness.

I was not aware of these screens. It has been years since I went to McDonalds. I had planned to never eat there again. This reinforces my resolve.
For something quick, their food is actually better than most since they switched back to real butter and cared about product quality. I recently ate at Carl’s Jr and was very, very disappointed in the high prices and lousy product quality.
As is the case most of the time, not what it used to be.
Insofar as McDonald’s, I go driveup almost always. The one time in the last 2 years I walked in is when I was directed by an employee to use the screen.
