99% of the snake owners I know feed humanely killed frozen/thawed prey, for the safety of their snakes *and* because they do NOT enjoy seeing the food die.

You must run in a circle of snake owners to say “99%”! I was talking about the other 1% anyways...the kind who do “get off” and then turn them loose in the Everglades or their favorite leafy suburbs.
I was fascinated with herpetology myself as a callow youth. Enjoyed very much earning the reptiles and amphibians boy scout merit badge ....66 years ago... Which included instructing a class with live specimens. Have learned a lot more since.
