Pit bull attacks owner in front of Animal Control officer at Dearborn home

DEARBORN, Mich. - A pit bull attacked its owner in Dearborn as a horrified Animal Control officer looked on, according to officials.

The incident happened after neighbors complained about the dog and an Animal Control officer was sent to the owner's home.

Signs at the front of the home give a fair warning of what to expect, and neighbors said trouble with the owner's dogs is not a surprise.

"I hate to say it, but it's been building up," neighbor Lela Warren said. "These dogs have gotten out several times. The neighbor right here's had that dog in his backyard, snarling at him."

On Monday afternoon, before the attack, an Animal Control officer approached the owner, who was in the backyard of his home with the pit bull.

"Animal Control peeked over the fence, I guess just to kind of see this dog, and the dog went after her," Warren said.

The owner apparently pulled the dog back to restrain it, and the pit bull attacked him, injuring both of his arms. He is expected to recover.

"All of a sudden, the dog, I guess, turned on him," neighbor Austin Ramos said. "All we saw was him flailing around behind the fence there. He was just going, 'No, no no,' and at some point, he goes, 'Shoot it. Shoot it. Shoot it.'"

The pit bull was put down Monday afternoon, officials said.

"The owner's great," Ramos said. "The owner's a great guy. He's always careful to keep the dog behind the fence and whatnot, but I guess just this time, it turned on him. He was covered in blood. His arms were all cut up.

I do not have an argument with this, but a lot of the time, they have very little to nothing, financially, to lose.

I believe you have very serious cause for concern, for yourself, for the baby, for other persons and animals in the area, and for the mother of the baby.

You may wish to video the situation with the dog while you are getting water. Burn a dvd, mail and/or email the park owner. Keep a copy. Talk to the manager and write a letter to the park owner or office or corporation.

I do not know how much information you have on pit bulls and their dangers and history of attacks, but here is a start:

https://www.nationalpitbullvictimawareness.org/

http://www.animals24-7.org/2017/08/08/pit-stop-archive/

and you may wish to look at youtube: “pit bulls jumping fences”, plus much information has been posted here on FR, keyword “pit bull”.

My friend had to have stitches but as far as I know she didn’t sustain any permanent damage. I felt she was lucky.

As I mentioned on a prior related thread she was a volunteer at a dog shelter. I asked her what was the most common breed at the shelter she said it was about 70 per cent pit bull. We have a pattern here that’s too obvious for some.

My neighbor behind me has a still growing pitbull that gets aggressive every time I go in the back yard. Right now, only a three foot chain length fence separates us. My old 6 foot fence was old and rotten, so I took it down with my last neighbor, but I am planning to put it back up this month.

I have 2 labs and I can see this pit coming over the fence to attack them soon. Its either a new fence or anti-freeze hotdogs for the pit.

"..Watch out, Eagle. The apologists on this forum for these vermin are zealots and can get pretty nasty.."

That's ok, I'm pretty fond of my "dog" as well. So much so I keep him in my pocket.

He "barks here" and "bites over there". YaknowhatImeanVern? Hehehe. d;^)

.

Damn, I do hate a vicious dog. No matter the breed or owner's disposition. Got attacked when I was a kid, and will not voluntarily suffer again for someone else's negligence or stupidity.

OK, I’m usually anti-pit bull, but I will agree that this story is about a pit bull that behaved properly.

Here in the Midwest, all the meth-heads have pits and they also play ‘breeder’ but don’t know the first thing about breeding. So now you have ahole owners improperly breeding/inbreeding pit bulls. Most don’t get fed regularly since meth-heads are always broke. Most don’t get training at all or what little training they get is in the form of a kick in the face.

Thanks for the link. I did a quick search and found an attack nearby last month. The woman whose dog was killed was charged with firing a weapon at the ground to scare off the dogs. She should have shot them and said she did so as they were about to attack her.

Woman cited for firing gun to scare off pit bulls that killed pet (Artesia, NM)

Yep, they can me snowflake because I wont point a loaded gun wity a hair trigger at my family, friends, neighbors, or strangers on the streets. unlike pitbull enthusists who refuse to see the truth. Even if one in a thousand handgrenades will go off unexpecrely, would you put an unmarked one in your pocket every day . and every day chose a different one from a pile of them? because these dogs are not the same dog every day.

That is no way enough protection. A female pit bull climbed a section of the three-foot fence at the back of my yard about two months ago. She just had puppies and was looking for food and was friendly. Animal control came and got her, but no sign of the puppies.

Put up a fence that the pit can't climb; a chain-link provides footholds for their paws to use and they are strong enough to use them.

There have been a number of discussions, pro and con, about doing this. Placement, neighborhood layout, line of fire, bystanders, etc.

About 1/3 of the attacks are of the owner, owner’s family or friends.

That is why I am going to put up a 6 foot wooden fence to keep the pit out.

99% of the snake owners I know feed humanely killed frozen/thawed prey, for the safety of their snakes *and* because they do NOT enjoy seeing the food die.

You know nothing.

You must run in a circle of snake owners to say “99%”! I was talking about the other 1% anyways...the kind who do “get off” and then turn them loose in the Everglades or their favorite leafy suburbs.

I was fascinated with herpetology myself as a callow youth. Enjoyed very much earning the reptiles and amphibians boy scout merit badge ....66 years ago... Which included instructing a class with live specimens. Have learned a lot more since.

The woman whose dog was killed was charged with firing a weapon at the ground to scare off the dogs.

That is sort of like the incident I had about 5 or 6 years ago. My dog was attacked by a pitbull as I was walking him right around twilight time. In my case, I shot the pitbull (I always carry). I was about to call the police when a police woman drove up. She was already on her way because the loose pitbull was already reported for cornering a woman in her garage (the lady had to climb up on her car to get away from it). I had to fill out a report while the police ran my CHL, etc. I cannot imagine firing my gun in a residential neighborhood just to make noise.

“Same with the python owners who...among other things...get off on seeing little mammals consumed alive. Sicko bastards.”

The ignorance and utter lack of knowledge in your post is quite telling. First off, as an owner of many pythons, we feed pre killed only. Secondly, the snake will kill the prey before eating. Not one owner of pythons I have ever met fits your ignorant description.

I would suggest you keep your ignorance to yourself as it makes you look like you dropped out of school and get your “knowledge” on these matters from people that think the Earth is flat.
