Reagan’s daughter: My dad would be ‘appalled’ by Trump presidency
Ronald Reagan would be “appalled” by the Trump presidency, daughter Patty Davis tells the Washington Post.
In a letter written on the occasion of the anniversary her father’s June 5, 2004 death, Davis said Reagan would be “pretty horrified at where we’ve come to.”
“He would be appalled and heartbroken,” she wrote, “at a Congress that refuses to stand up to a president who not only seems ignorant of the Constitution but who also attempts at every turn to dismantle and mock our system of checks and balances.”
Davis, 65, doesn’t mention Trump by name; she does make mention of how she’d once publicly criticized another president — her father.

I thought only the adopted son ever stood up for Ronald Reagan in a steadfast fashion.
Some of us were actually alive and sentient during the Reagan presidency. Some of us actually remember the hateful vitriol from the Left against Reagan.
And we also remember the hateful vitriol from this aging, drug-addled leftist hippie against her own father.
I find it actually hilarious to hear them talk about the George W. Bush presidency...largely the same thing, though it is too close to that time frame, so they faintly realize how ridiculous they sound to others when they speak about how civil things were when Bush was president. To them, there wasn't anything positive. They hated that he even drew breath.
I guess they are waiting for us (who actually remember) to die off so they can exercise monolithic control over who The Two Minutes Hate should be directed towards, and who it shouldn't.
I’m going to make a wild-eyed guess here, and suggest that the overwhelming majority of Reagan voters who were still alive in 2016 voted for Trump.
What you said! I remember both Patty and her brother Ron trashing their Dad and his achievements when he was President. She has not a clue about her Dad other than as a father....
Reagan often acted decisively and got things done. But in many cases he still clung to bipartisanship and played into the hands of the left by publicly treating them with respect and deference.
Trump readily understands that the Left views that respect and deference as weakness, and as such, is not as inclined to give them that power, and as such, taps into their greatest weakness: Their overwhelming desire to be relevant, important, and deserving of respect.
Trump treats them as irrelevant, unimportant, and undeserving of respect. As a beneficial side effect, his ridicule of them makes them angry and befuddled, like a wounded bull that is having a red cape dangled in front of it. When the Left gets like that, the red cape of ridicule is all they can see, and their rage and befuddlement renders them impotent.
Think of how much Reagan got done, and how much more he could have gotten done if he had treated the Left as Trump does.
(Note: I appreciate Reagan as he was, for that time. There were still an occasional few on the Left who could be treated with respect. Very few, but they were there. I respected Reagan for being a gentleman.)
I also appreciate Trump for refusing to be one when it is called for.

In fact, I'd bet her father wouldn't shake her hand even once.
Patty Davis was appalled by her own father’s Presidency...so this is rich.
Patti was appalled at her father’s presidency.
What Reagan would beost appalled of is that he paved the path for a great conservative view but the GOP dumped it all down the crapper. And of course the daughter doesn’t think Reagan would be appalled by liberals, Pelosi, Comey, Clinton’s, etc, just Trump. She needs to get a life.
She was appalled by her dads (Regan’s) administration.

Reagan was a polite affable man who lived in more civilized ie pre PC times. The popular culture is a lot tougher and meaner nowadays. What the Left really hates about President Trump is he gives it right back to them in equal measure.
How would you know, Patti? You didn’t like your father and caused him great sadness and embarrassment.
