Reagan’s daughter: My dad would be ‘appalled’ by Trump presidency
Ronald Reagan would be “appalled” by the Trump presidency, daughter Patty Davis tells the Washington Post.
In a letter written on the occasion of the anniversary her father’s June 5, 2004 death, Davis said Reagan would be “pretty horrified at where we’ve come to.”
“He would be appalled and heartbroken,” she wrote, “at a Congress that refuses to stand up to a president who not only seems ignorant of the Constitution but who also attempts at every turn to dismantle and mock our system of checks and balances.”
Davis, 65, doesn’t mention Trump by name; she does make mention of how she’d once publicly criticized another president — her father.

Actually, Reagan’s first child Maureen (born to him and Jane Wyman) was very supportive of her dad.
Michael is the only adopted child.

From their bubbles, Trump’s critics continue to refuse to give substance. They don’t understand they’ll never win people, especially past Reagan supporters, with that method.
She only mentions Trump’s “tone”, and his criticism of the press.

Born 1952 . Ike , Reagan and Trump only decent in my lifetime . Have voted only for Reagan ( twice ) and Trump .
Reagan had a great sense of humor and so does Trump . One thing I like(d) about both of them .

I did a search but couldn’t find it.
In the Reagan Library they have a shoebox(?) with a bunch of index cards with jokes written on them by Reagan. They were found in a desk.
They have several comedians read through a few of them. It is pretty funny watching Jay Leno just read the joke and crack up at the end - or mid-way sometimes. Then he would describe and say what makes it such a great joke. You could tell from all of the comedians that they had a great admiration for his joke telling.
I did find a video of the debate with Reagan and Mondale. And Reagan asked about his old age being an issue for the election. The joke was great. The response from Mondale is priceless.

I’ve always been appalled by all of Reagan’s weirdo kids. They don’t speak for their dad anymore than I do. Trump is a better president than Reagan was anyway.
Patty Davis... figures. The only reason this is news is that they got to work the name “Reagan” into a headline critical of Trump. Patty Davis was never a conservative.

I agree with you entirely on the Presidents: Eisenhower (who masterfully handled the Cold War and the defense industrial complex), Reagan and Trump are the three good ones in my lifetime. JFK had good points - tax cuts, the space program, inspiring speeches - but he was not the philosopher-king his hagiographers made him out to be. Nixon had good points - bombing the hell of out of North Vietnam for a war he got blamed for but inherited, but he could never let go of personal insecurities. The others, Bush I & II, Clinton, Carter, Ford, Obama - I could care less about.

What is the purpose of this article? Who is it directed towards? Why is it written now?
This article attempts to weaken people’s opinion of Trump. It’s especially directed towards low-information conservatives who respect Reagan, and would respect his children without knowing anything about them. It is attempting to reduce the momentum Trump has in preparation of the mid-terms.
The big lesson is that the leftists use deception and ignorance as weapons. Notice that the article does not disclose her anti-conservative ideology. It uses the conservative Reagan name to attack. That is deception. The article would be accepted by those who are ignorant of this fact.
Here at FR we are not ignorant and can see right through this. The left will never stop releasing fake articles like this until people can see through them, discredit the source, and REFUSE to ever go to that unreliable deceptive source for information again. This would be following the model of NFL resistance. It is time to fight. We are at war.
