Darlene to the rescue? Roughly 72 hours after cancelling Roseanne amid controversy, ABC is looking to possibly keep the franchise alive with a spinoff centered on Sara Gilberts acid-tongued single mom, TVLine has confirmed.
The standalone Darlene series was one of five offshoots proposed by TVLine in the wake of Roseannes spectacular fall on Tuesday. ABC could not be reached for comment.
It was three days ago that ABC announced it was scrapping the series already-greenlit 11th season after its titular star Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist joke about Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett. In announcing the cancellation, ABC president Channing Dungey called Barrs comment abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values. Gilbert, meanwhile, said she was disappointed in Barrs actions to say the least, while showrunner Bruce Helford said he was horrified and saddened by the remark.

Sara Gilbert will be a thin talent to base a show on. She was (3rd/4th/5th ??) banana on the original Roseanne, and was written out of Big Bang Theory and replaced by other female actors. Bottom line; a supporting cast member, not a star.
Of course, TV magic does not come with a label, so maybe this would be the lucky charm...
Just tell Sergeant Schultz that she escaped to England through the Emergency Tunnel.
No t strong enough to carry the show
They can rename it: Roseanne’s Ungrateful Brats
It is literally called “Roseanne”, so it’s hard to see it.
Good luck.
ABC probably has to pay her and the other stars anyhow.
ABC is losing lots of money. Belies the claim that the media only care about making money.
I just wanna watch the unaired episodes
JAG to NCIS to NCIS LA to NCIS NO
All in the family to The Jeffersons
All in the Family to Maude
The Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon
Different Strokes to Facts of Life
Happy Days to Laverne and Shirley
Soap to Benson
Cosby Show to A Different World
Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Angel
Mary Tyler Moore to Lou Grant
Law and Order to Law and Order SVU and Law and Order Criminal Unit
Chicago Fire to Chicago PD to Chicago Med
Cheers to Frasier
I am sure there are ton more, but I can’t think of them at the moment.
From Fox News: “One person who may be onboard is John Goodman. Goodman, who plays Roseanne’s husband and Gilbert’s father on the comedy, is reportedly “very interested.””
Very interested?!! Way to throw Rosie under the bus, Dan.
I really thought Darlene was the weakest part of the show this time around. Darlene being immature and a brat does not work at 40 years old. Quite frankly only Rosanne, Dan and Jackie were of much interest. The Sarah Chulk Becky was a million times better then the original and this reboot proved that again.
Haven't seen an Epic fail for awhile. This will be mildly amusing.
Don't think all of the cast, particularly Gilbert, appreciate her effort.
John Goodman has always been Switzerland throughout this whole thing. When asked about the cancellation, “He said he will say nothing”. Why wouldn’t he want to go back. I think he really enjoyed doing the show.
Valerie (1986-1987) [Harper was removed from the series due to salary dispute. The series continued without her.]
Valeries Family (1987-1988)
The Hogan Family (1988-1991)
It premiered on NBC, but the final season was on CBS.
She's really unlikable as an adult.
They don’t get it. So what started as a salute to the people who voted for Trump is now a show about a liberal with a transgendered son. Very Very nice. I will never watch it
Good point. Lasted 6 seasons. Not a bad run in the big picture I suppose. I was sure that Kevin can Wait was going to run 6 seasons but they cancelled it after 2. That to me was the shocker cancellation of the year at least until Rosanne.
Don’t forget:
Happy Days to Joannie Loves Chachi
:)
True true true. I was one of the few that liked that show....lol.
