Terrifying. Just over a mile from my house. Dogs aren’t going out again ..... I’m not either. Wonder if my M&P Shield would even scratch this thing.

Sounds quite interesting. He was definetly having some fun at white man’s expense heh.

I don’t play with a bluff charge, if it’s coming it’s eating lead. By the time you figure out it’s not a bluff, it’s too late.

Around here we make noise, but they are used to it and I guess it makes them curious, you’ll see them come look around. Some track I saw the other day of a grizz is one I don’t want to meet. He had a massive track.

I sure love those wildlife training videos they show people. I can tell they were produced by liberals lol. Basically, if you followed their advice, you’d have a story with a terrible ending.

Rush’s nightly TV show in ‘93 highlighted a Bay Area outrage: A single mom on an early morning jog was killed & partly eaten by a Mtn Lion. When officials found & killed it, they discovered she left behind two cubs. SF Bay residents donated huge amount$$ to a charity fund to provide for the orphaned cubs, but nobody lifted a finger to help the human orphans.

Above is a wolf attack that happened just prior to a job we did in a nearby village. Female school teacher from the Lower 48 on a jog, turned a corner, saw wolves, ran - couldn’t run fast enough. The interesting (and amazing from a tactical view, and spooky) - was a third wolf running parallel to her travel to box her in if needed.

On my last job up in Alaska the local said Alaska has the highest number of missing persons. He figured a lot of them were just guys that didn’t want to be found. But a lot of drownings, and a lot of animal deaths. A grizzly near his town was suspected of killing a guy and they killed it. They found the guy’s remains; and two others. “Yeah - those numbers they report on grizzly deaths - those are ‘confirmed’ deaths - I’m guessing the actual number is 4x as high.”

Of course the only bear we ended up seeing was a black bear running as fast as he could away from our truck as we were headed to the site. Which is fine by me!

If they had time, a mountain bike held sideways in front of you could be both a weapon and a barrier to the cat.

An adult cougar usually tops out around 150 pounds, so an adult man + mountain bike versus a cougar would almost be a fair fight.

I live about 20 miles from this incident, and I run every morning near “Cougar Mountain.”

At this time of year I usually run before sunrise because it’s cooler. My running trail is often deserted at that time in the morning, and I consciously think about cougars every day.

I figure if I come face to face with a big cat, I have some chance because I will absolutely fight for my life.

But if one of those cats hits you from behind, you will be in deep trouble.

These two were too well indoctrinated to carry, so one of them is now kitty kibble and the other is a jigsaw puzzle for the doctors to play with. Leftists assure us that this was a better outcome than armed self defense.

To all who claim to love nature - nature is deadly. We live in houses to keep nature away from us.

I wouldn't argue with the rangers but I have read that Alaskan guides prefer 12 gauge slugs to the eye....direct path to the brain. I don't know why a 375 H and H or 45 70 wouldn't do just as well. I have also read that cans of spray and REI gear have been found in bear scat!😎

Re: “These lions kill fast runners = adult, male elk = that can weight 800 pounds.”

I believe it. If they get near your neck, they never let go.

I’ve seen elk - up close and personal - on my morning runs. Some of them are as big as a horse.

Just a few weeks ago I channel surfed into a nature film shot in Alaska. They had film of a single wolf - maybe 125 pounds - running down an adult elk on open terrain.

The wolf grabbed the elk by the throat and dragged it down and killed it. Completely amazing.

Here’s an excerpt from an AP piece just posted in The Oregonian. If this is a true account of what took place it’s really weird, first time I’ve heard of something like this. Maybe the cat was sick or rabid.

Excerpt:

“SEATTLE — The two mountain bikers did what they were supposed to do when they noticed a mountain lion tailing them on a trail east of Seattle.

They got off their bikes. They faced the beast, shouted and tried to spook it. After it charged, one even smacked the cougar with his bike, and it ran off.

It wasn’t enough, authorities said.

When they got on their bikes again, the cougar returned, biting one of them on the head and shaking him. The second cyclist ran, and the animal dropped the first victim and pounced on him, killing him and dragging him back to what appeared to be its den, King County sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Abbott said.

“They did everything they were supposed to do,” Abbott said Sunday. “But something was wrong with this cougar.””

It sounds like they did everything right the first time, but after they headed out and were attacked the second time, one of the cyclists ran. Sadly, that turned out to be a fatal mistake for him.

Yes, something may be wrong with that cat, but then again, it may have been starving and desperate. Either way, very tragic for the riders.

Thanks for the additional info.

Keep yourself safe up in Washington!
