The new Magnum being a minority..?
I sorta expected that.
But then Higgins turned out a sassy, hot blonde British female.
And then "Higgins" started roundhouse kicking KGB contractors in the jaw, knocking them out. And giving "Magnum" a whole lot of lip.
And that's when I got very scared and angry.
Some time ago I joked the Bay and Abrams were going to cooperate to bring forth a groundbreaking movie experience featuring exploding lens flare.
IIRC he did a made for TV movie where he played a novelist whose girlfriend shot him with an arrow in the butt. That was a funny ‘mystery’. Selleck was very good in those parts. Magnum was like that, a mystery with comedic interludes. Hellerman was a really good character actor. Was it ever revealed finally that Higgins was Robin Masters?

We used to live in the town they live and used to see them around. My group from work ate at a restaurant where Selleck’s dad frequented. He was VERY handsome!

They should have called it something else because it’s not Magnum PI. Take a popular American favorite and destroy it, it’s the democrat way.

My wife and I almost exclusively watch Brit mystery shows. They treat you like an adult, the audio isn’t hyperactive and I think the video quality kicks butt.
A new Brit show is Maigret...about a French police detective starring none other than Rowan Atkinson. It took me quite a while to accept Atkinson playing a role straight up. It is excellent.
Love the Father Brown mysteries.
Selleck’s appeal is that he’s a regular guy and doesn’t come off ever as egotistical. Extremely comfortable with himself thus able to do some schtlck and comedy. A man’s man, too...believe expert rating with 1911 .45 ACP.
Doesn’t hurt he’s handsome as hell either. I think his best work is in the Jesse Stone series. Selleck now owns the rights. Waiting for the next installment.

I really liked High Road to China. Cute movie. And when I listen to the ending track song, it is just so peaceful. Have it in my music favorites.
But, I also, love Tom Selleck. Well, maybe a little “in lust”. Old ladies still dream.

I think the reboot is better than the original. The Doctor Smith character is exquisitely done and I was rooting for one the other characters to kill her, she was able to make me lose any empathy for her. Good writing/good acting...and oddly true to the original idea.
Can’t see the Magnum PI idea being close, just they own the name and script base. Probably will lose most of the original fanbase fairly quickly.
