VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was stabbed in the neck while holding his young daughter on his lap while dining at a restaurant on the Ventura Promenade.

Ventura police received multiple calls around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday about a stabbing at the Aloha Steakhouse at 364 S. California St.

Police said the victim and his wife were having dinner along with their 5-year-old daughter at the time of the attack, which appeared to be unprovoked.

Investigators said there was no altercation or contact prior to the attack, and the victim and suspect did not appear to know each other.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a group of good Samaritans standing along the Ventura Promenade who had chased the suspect from the crime scene onto the beach, investigators said.

Officers tracked down the suspect and ordered him to the ground. He complied and was detained on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Jamal Jackson, describing him as a local vagrant.

While Jackson was being taken into custody, other responding officers found the victim at the crime scene, suffering from a life-threatening stab wound to the neck. The officers rendered first aid to the man until medical responders arrived on scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital to be taken immediately into surgery. Following surgery, the victim was listed to be in critical condition.

The manager of the Ventura restaurant said the victim's family called to thank them and the good Samaritans who took action during the stabbing.

A motive in the stabbing was not immediately known, police said.

Now if we could just get the coyotes to go after the crooks, things might improve.

You meant cayotes go after the Kalifornia politicians, didn't you?

I doubt the vagrant was buying a meal... Was the place afraid to throw the bum out because of Starbucks madness?

**Gasp!** They used the word “Local Vagrant!” Not “homeless” not “dreamer”!

OMG you're right. I guess if a young father holding his child is murdered it's OK to drop the PC bullshit for one story. It'll be back tomorrow.

The Aloha Steakhouse

Such a pleasant place... but so vulnerable.

Seriously? Every once in awhile family activities keep kids out late. Even good parents make exceptions to bed time once in awhile. It could have been a special night-a rare treat out.

On summer we had surprise “jammy rides” with our kids. We’d go through the bedtime routine and after they’d been tucked in bed for a bit, we’d call out “jammy ride!” The kids would get out of bed and hop in the car to drive through for ice cream or some other fun adventure in PJs.

It kept them up late, but they loved it. It’s been several years since we did that,we should do it this summer with our younger kids.

“Jammy rides” sounds like a lot of fun - great idea. The only jammy rides we gave was when my twin daughters were young and had colic so bad - to try to get them asleep.

At least it gave my wife a break from it for awhile. And then that slow careful trip back to their crib.

Sadly - this little girl won’t get to do “jammy rides” with her dad. Or anything. Because of some scumbag, deranged bum. Of course it is “inhumane” to put them in a pysch ward where he might have received the treatment he needed.

Well - hopefully in prison he will receive the treatment he deserves.

I often go to the store late at night - 11:30 or midnight. It is always tough to see some mom with a small child or two doing their shopping. I figure single mom, works a late shift, etc. It’s hard enough raising kids with two parents. (And now the deceased’s wife is on her own.)

“It just occurred to me that the man was up to no good and he was using his family as a cover. Good parents don’t keep little kids up that late.”

OMG - I think you’re right!! The guy was having an affair with a nurse at the hospital. So he took his child out late to a place KNOWN to have crazy bums all over. Figured the child would be fussy, disturb one of the bums trying to sleep in the doorway, and the bum would try to stab the child. Instead, the man was waiting for it and stepped in front of the blade, so that he would need to go to the hospital. And smart enough to bring his wife along as a witness.

Now at the hospital, with his lovely mistress (the nurse), the doctors were able to stitch him up. Suspiciously, the following day his monitors all alarm - with his special nurse on duty. The doctor’s check for a pulse and find none. The nurse wheel’s him down to the morgue.

But at the back entrance she tears away the fake plastic skin around the “deceased’s” neck that concealed his pulse, and she takes him to a secret location where she can take care of him as he mends. (Probably found a bum that looked like her lover and put the bum on the gurney Once folks are in a hospital gown and pale blue they all look about the same).

Interestingly, the man had left a million-dollar life insurance policy as a donation to the “Ventura County Nurses Aid Foundation.” He was the FIRST donor to this charity.

That was a marvellous, imaginative piece of noise suppression. Thank you!

Back to the thread. May God bless this poor man and his bereaved family.

...

It’s a nice restaurant with a lot of good reviews. Wouldn’t expect trouble there.

At 6:23 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities were contacted about a man yelling and being disruptive near the Crowne Plaza Hotel, across the promenade from the Aloha Steakhouse.

All Ventura patrol officers in the area were assigned to other calls, so Ventura police used the pier security camera system to observe the man described by the witness, police said. The man was later determined by authorities to be Jackson.

...

The police knew.

We were getting overrun earlier this year, cops were zero help

I finally went and talked to the vagrant who was trying to set up camp at the end of our street and thoroughly explained texas deadly force laws to the sob who went from agitated to really nervous really fast

What is surprising is we have not seen any on our street in over a month and fewer in the general vicinity
