"Cola" is the Spanish word for "tail" as in an animal tail. Marijuana buds are commonly known as "foxtails". Colitas is a plural diminutive form - so the line means the smell of buds. If "cola" means tail, then "colitas" or "little tail" is technically correct. Warm smell of marijuana makes sense in the context. They haven't had wine (spirit) since 1969, cause now they smoke the ganja.
Just like "nalgitas" would be "little nalgas" for "little butt." That is the most plausible interpretation of "colitis" in this context. Though little tail does make sense too if the context is pedo sex.

my wife is from Mexico, and colita is the term she uses when talking to our young daughter about her privates.

Life was so much simpler when I was ignorant. Used to really like and enjoy that song, now crossing "Hotel California" off list. This is what I'll be listening to from now on:

Yeah, I had grandparents, parents, and other relatives who would use it as a slang term for "little ass". That's why when the song came out I was still in grade school and it would make me chuckle. Now, it takes on a whole new and possible sick meaning if that is what the writer was really referring to.

Warm smell of marijuana makes sense in the context. Given that the album came out in 1975, the smell of Mary Jane would be common. It sure was during that concert! I didn't inhale (much). No wonder my growth has been stunted.
