America Cuts the Chord: Cable TV Household Penetration Collapsed Double Digits In 2017
Breitbart ^ | March 21, 2018 | John Nolte

Posted on 03/21/2018 6:19:55 PM PDT by EdnaMode

According to a new study, subscriptions to streaming TV services exploded by 450 percent in less than a decade. This has resulted in surge of cord-cutting, those who cancel their cable or satellite packages (pay TV). The result is that pay TV household penetration has collapsed from a years-long hold of 75 percent, to just 63 percent in 2017.

In 2009, only 10 percent of homes subscribed to a streaming TV service (Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc.). By 2017, that number surged to 55 percent, or a 450 percent increase.

Does this also count people who just use cable to access the internet?

I can't understand why there would be a lot of complete cord cutting since often cable companies can provide high-speed internet connection at lower prices than telephone companies.

Unless everyone is using their cell phones to watch movies.

How sad if that is something that more and more people find acceptable. If so, they're going to have to eliminate the Oscar for cinematography.

There’s nothing on, and it’s too expensive.

I cut the cord 2 years ago and I have not missed it at all. Who in their right mind pays over $100 a month for 100 channels that are all commercials anyway?

Hard to believe, but 23 short years ago we were debating this:

We cut the cord about 6 years ago.

Who in their right mind would keep renting a fleet of cars when only about 2 or 3 of them actually ran?

It’s really the same difference with cable/satellite packages. What I do not like is the subsidizing of channels I loath, such as CNN.

FU CTV!

Streaming on the other monitor while I Freep.

Cut the cord in 2007(?)

This is a good start. Hope cable tv keeps trending down. It will push the cable companies to offer a la carte programming.

Good luck prying Mrs. POF’s fingers of the Cable Box remote. If there is a sport played by humans, she’ll watch it. No way we can cut the cord in this house. Me? Haven’t watch a regular TV show in years. I’ll wait until they are on Amazon or Netflix. I love commercial free shows and not completely forgetting what happened to Longmire and Katie or Frank Reagan and his brood last week and the week before.

I feel your pain. I would dearly love to cut the cable but my wife is severely tech challenged.

Misleading, a lot people are using the internet to stream but they are getting the internet from the cable companies.

I’ll do you one better. We fired our cable company a year ago and have an OTA antenna.

We don’t miss the extra channels, plus it has cut down on my mindless grazing.

The cable company where I live just started offering ala cart. I just threw the offer in the trash yesterday.

18 months and I still don't miss it and I for sure don't miss the huge bill.

‘There’s nothing on, and it’s too expensive.”

You hit it. After twenty five years people have wised up. Watching women dress like men and act like men with happy gay characters living perfect lives isn’t worth paying for.
