President Trump ordered Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to eat a salad served to U.S. diplomats during a trip to China last year, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
The Chinese leaders had reportedly included Caesar salad on the menu for a dinner with Trump, Tillerson and other top U.S. officials in November. The event was held in China's Great Hall of the People during Trump's tour of Asia.
Trump grew worried that the Chinese officials might be offended if the U.S. leaders didn't eat the salad, the Journal reported.
"Rex, eat the salad," Trump told his top diplomat, according to the newspaper.
Tillerson reportedly laughed off the president's comment.
The Journal cited the incident as an example of the sometimes tense relationship between Trump and Tillerson.
Trump ousted Tillerson as secretary of State in a tweet Tuesday morning, replacing him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

It seems to me a very easy thing to understand, The Prez was trying to communicate that it would be a slight to the famously slight-conscious Chinese, not to eat their carefully prepared and presented salad.

Exactly! It’s not like he pulled out a reset button or something - it’s basic manners & Trump proved he was great at giving his hosts the proper levels of respect without groveling or apologizing for USA. The story is stupid either way.
what some people want to make into an ‘ordered by the President to eat his veggies”, normal people see as casual, and normal, banter at a diplomatic dinner. Maybe TRex was talking too much or something. Or forgot how to stretch one bite into six or seven bite bits to give the appearance of eating while everyone else is eating. But trust the MSM to switch to nitpicking mode at any opportunity.
Trump is a regular guy. If Trump said that, and there is no reason he shouldn’t have, he could have had any of a number of reasons, including just joking around, pretending to be a parent telling a kid to eat his salad, or perhaps himself not knowing what other smalltalk to make at that point in the dinner and landing on a lighthearted, ironic comment. The press doesn’t know how to handle a real person. I presume someone overheard this and scraping the bottom of the barrel for something negative to say tried to make a mountain out of a trivial remark.
I hear they also argued about Melania’s choice of shoes. /s
Can the once-great U.S. press get any pettier? When they had to spend money on paper, ink and delivery, they didn’t used to run garbage articles as incredibly stupid as this pantload.
That's exactly how I read it as well. Probably just joking around.
I liked Trump as the choice among the candidates for president, cried from complete joy and relief when he was elected, and continue to have increasing affection for him.
Sounds like another Partisan media smear by some partisan media shill. Also sounds suspiciously like a true anecdote from (of all places) National Lampoon.

Or was on a diet and trump cracked a joke because Rex wasn’t adhering to it.....out of the blue statements w/o context are often private jokes “out in the open” between friends.
