Danica done: Patrick wrecks in final race of NASCAR career
Washington Post ^ | February 18 at 6:24 PM | Dan Gelston | AP

Posted on 02/18/2018 6:19:28 PM PST by BenLurkin

Patrick’s final NASCAR race at the Daytona 500 captured her career to perfection. She had photojournalists embedded with her, a hunky celebrity NFL QB boyfriend by her side, social media buzzing — and a crumpled Chevy towed to the garage that put a premature end to her race.

Patrick smooched her boyfriend and then kissed her NASCAR career goodbye when she was caught up in a wreck in Sunday’s race.

Her final win-loss record was a dud: 0 for 191 in the Cup series.

No Tebow actually won games.

Their respective recods really don’t compare at all.

Only one reason she made that money and it isn’t talent.

Can you name a female NASCAR driver that had a better career?

Sara Christian had a Top 5 finish in 1949, and finished 13th in the points standings (top ever for any female).

Janet Guthrie finished the 1976 World 600 in 15th, ahead of Dale Earnhardt, then became the first woman to lead a Winston Cup Series race under caution, at Ontario Speedway in 1977.

In 1986, Patty Moise became the first woman to lead in a Busch Series race, and made a record 133 Xfinity Series starts between 1986 and 1998

In 1988, Shawna Robinson became the first woman to win a NASCAR Touring Series event. In 1989 she became the first woman to earn the pole position for a NASCAR touring series race. She then won the pole for the March 12, 1994 Xfinity Series Busch Light 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

In the 90s, Tammy Jo Kirk scored 37 top-10 finishes and two poles in what was then known as the All Pro Series, before making the first starts for a woman in the Camping World Truck Series.

Danica has the most Top 10s (seven), most starts (190), won a pole, and led 64 laps in her career.

dale Earnhardt jr was a complete dud as a competitor..besides the first Daytona that Nascar awarded him in some kind of honor to his father, he's been a complete bust for all the support he had...

26 career wins (20th in the modern era, since 1972), 149 Top Fives (19th), and 8195 laps led (19th)... that's a "dud"?

The press loved to have a woman for their presentations. All that mattered was for her to race. It didn’t matter if she won or not.

The name of the game is to sell tickets and advertising. Danica helped in that regard.

Agree. And on a scale that matters, the Regressives claim it doesn’t matter if a Marine can pass the Infantry Officer Course capstone exercise, a soldier can throw a grenade, a Ranger can meet the pre-course physical challenge standards or complete the confidence course, or that sailors can do pullups. It’s a high price to pay for being stylish and means degraded military readiness, battlefield defeat, and more combat casualties.

Two guesses. Left and right.

Either one good enough for me.

Guthrie was more consistent in her too 10 finishes

You want women racing try drag racing

They sorta compete

I prefer to watch strippers and sports illustrated swimsuit issues shoots

But that’s just me...

Danica is cute but prolly got a car cause of her ovaries

The all-time Queen of Motorsports is Angelle Sampey. 3 time NHRA champion in Pro Stock Motorcycle, with 42 event victories. Shirley Muldowney was awesome in a more physically demanding class. Next in line is Courtney Force, John’s daughter, who won the 2017 NHRA Top Fuel title.

Winning in NASCAR takes quite a bit. You probably have to be driving for an organization that puts one of the top-12 cars out on the track week-in and week-out. In a few seasons, Danica has had that. But she wasn’t good enough to keep one of the top rides, so she gets an 0-fer.

She seemed better on the big tracks, as opposed to the intermediates & the brutal short-tracks. Maybe she should have stated in the Indy-series?

You’re darn right she deserves some props. A 90lb demure female ran with the big dogs. It takes stamina and fitness to race these cars. Most of the keyboard commandos here would soil their diapers to run those speeds in traffic like racers do weekly. She may not have won, but she’s a true racer.

That's exactly where she should've stayed.

I wonder about that. She seemed to finish in the money a lot, and always had a strong sponsor.

Make that Brittany Force, not Courtney. Courtney does Funny Cars.

I remember now. I read a feature about Danica Patrick decades ago when she was up and coming. The article mentioned she had a patch on her uniform with that phrase embroidered on it. Must be once she made it to Nascar that was no longer appropriate. Apparently that phrase was from some movie during that era and several women repeated it including the woman you mention.

The military is one thing, auto racing is another.

In sports you only have one winner. That winner needs a supporting cast of losers and also-rans to draw in the spectators, to bring in the money. Imagine a NASCAR race with only eight racers, people who stand an actual chance of winning. The audience would be much smaller.

Heck, I can’t remember a twentieth of the names in the last Indy 500. But, they contributed to the experience; that’s for sure.
