i’m not sure what Bible you may be familiar with, but this is a quotation from the King James version of the Bible? it is from Paul’s first epistle to the Corinthians found in the New Testament.
check your Bible and see if these are not the exact words of Paul.
1 Corinthians 15:29
“Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?”
In Islam, everyone is born Muslim You don’t convert; you revert.

from what i understand of their beliefs, baptism is an earthly ordinance; meaning that as Christ [a perfect, sinless being] was baptized by John the Baptist, then it is a requirement that mere mortals also be baptized while on earth. those who died without being baptized then are baptized by those who remain on earth who serve as their proxy. those who are dead for whom this baptism was done are not in any way required or forced to accept this baptism. mormons are strong believers in free will.

Baptizing is not magic. “baptizing” someone without their knowledge, or who is dead, is a ridiculous exercise in witchcraft. Says a lot about the crazy religion of Mittens Romney.

Somewhat loony a baptisms have to be received by living people either personally or when presented by a parent or guardian.

so your interpretation makes sense to me even if the mormons may use that same scriptural passage as a basis for their practice of proxy baptisms. just a difference in interpretation. i have had some mormons relate to me that baptisms for the dead were performed in much earlier biblical times.
Except that the people doing it are deluded into thinking they're accomplishing something for the departed.

Will not read this article, but asking does the researcher have a name? And is the researcher anti-Mormon? I mean, is there any verification of these acts? It sounds ridiculous.
It appears that the Mormon practice of baptism for the dead contradicts the Book of Mormon!
In Alma 34.35-36 we read: “For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he does seal you his. Therefore, the spirit of the Lord has withdrawn from you and hath no place in you; the power of the devil is over you, and this is the final state of the wicked.”
There was a time when the Jews criticized the diets of Jesus’s followers for the same reason.
would be better to go to a reliable Christian commentary and learn the history of the practice that Paul mentions in 1 Cor while defending the resurrection of the dead. I was taught that if someone had died shortly after giving their life to Christ, that is when the baptism was done by proxy.
My brothers and I became Christians one day in Mar ‘61. My oldest brother died in Nam but I don’t believe he was ever baptized. In 61 he would have been around 8 1/2. I’ve thought about the proxy thing, but never did any real research into it.
It’s meaningless, like a statue of athena is meaningless. Mormons...or morons?
