If you’ve had a fulfilling career, you will not _need_ to do anything in retirement.
If you have a creative bone, you will always be busy.
I retired for two months recently then my replacement quit. Back working 3 to 5 days a week. (When I moved from LA back to Texas 2 years ago I realized I could afford to retire.) I almost accepted a new full time job last week but there are too many travel plans and events on my 2018 calendar! Id like interim work eventually. Shopping and dining out on weekdays is great!
Took up duplicate bridge seriously and like to travel around the country playing bridge tournaments.
I already had many established hobbies that I was able to pursue full-time. After a month or two it was if I had never worked at a job. Now I work for myself. Enjoy.
I co-wrote "The Gospels of the American Civic Religion: The Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers," for which we are currently seeking a publisher.
Then I got bored and moved from Lynden (WA) to Scottsdale (AZ) to become the salaried executive director of a passenger rail advocacy group.
There is life after retirement.
I’m 62...
I have collected old army surplus...
Camping gear and collectables.
No NAZI stuff.
I think
THAT stuff seems to hold value.
I just Love Army surplus stores but figured I could just do Gun Shows.
One day at a time,Still like my Day job.
But I trade stocks....4 days a week. Sometimes 5...depending.
I still like working in the Hosp....but at times...it's hard.
Same thing could be said...about trading stocks.
Retired almost 13 years ago, immediately started hospital volunteer work. Still doing it, hope to continue until I drop. It’s a labor of love.
Spent my time not worrying about what to do. I have 4, 6, and 10 mile walks. Brings back memories of what is was like being 12 during the summer. Work is for mugs. I spent 44 years being one.
Play golf
Restore motorcycles
Learn Java
Drink coffee and watch Mike and Mike
Ride my bicycle, scooters and motorcycles
Cook
I took up a job managing a tactical store that was only a mile from my home. Had a ball until the owner just decided to close the place on a whim.
I don’t do much now, once in awhile I have an old client call and ask for my services but other than that I am preparing my house here in Virginia to sell in two years when my wife retires. We will then go up to our real retirement home in the north woods of Michigan and enjoy family, friends, and I will hunt and fish every day I can to make up for the years in the military that I could not do so.
Spend more time enjoying time with my wife, reading and studying history of the Middle Ages(an avocation), gardening, woodworking and enjoying days away with my wife, hopefully 1 day every two weeks where we just take off and explore the surrounding area.
At 79, my motto is: If I don’t learn or do something new everyday, I am dead!
Started our consulting business. Now that we are in our 60’s we are into putting in new joints. Hip for him, and knees for me.
Manage a liquor store..........
Reselling, yard sales, goodwills, estates sales. Always enjoyed junking, antiquing. Gotta stay busy.
Add Salvation Army. Buyto fixbroken things.
Have yard sales. :)
I will be retiring next fall. Cant wait, Im 63 & been working since I was 16. I would plan on traveling with my husband but hes a veterinarian and not planning on retiring soon so I will do a little traveling with my kids & grandkids when I feel like it. I love working in the yard & will be having a below-ground greenhouse built in my back yard soon so I can garden year-round & not worry with weeding and heat. Also, have always wanted to hike the areas of my familys ranch that are not accessible by pickup and interested in exploring a huge void we recently discovered there to see if its a cave. Love the ranch.
Volunteer work.
I’m retiring at the end of this school year. I’d like to learn to cook like the rednecks on BBQ Pit Boys, maybe learn to fish, supplement pension with sub teaching, and study the Word.
Then I finally got tired of computer work and shifted my attention to photography. Having a blast at it.
