What movie do you hate that everyone else loved?

The first that comes to mind for me: "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial". Sappy and overly sentimental.

(And while I'm at it, "Titanic")

I’ve tried to sit through many a Woody Allen movie, but for the life of me, I can’t get past his nebbish persona that infiltrates all his movies. I will admit I have not seen any of his movies since the details of his relationship with his adopted daughter came out.

How he is considered a great movie maker is inconceivable to me.

One other movie whose name completely eluded me, but my husband mentioned it:

It’s a Wonderful Life - where we find out that without George, that whole town would have disintegrated. What an idiotic premise. It’s designed to produce a generation of narcissists, I suppose.

I don't know if it really counts, because it was basically only my liberal friends who had orgasms over it, but it was a special "treat" on PBS for a few years, Ebert has it on his "Greatest Movies Of All Time" list, and I utterly loathed it: My Dinner With Andre. Two hours of a systematic discourse on everything that is wrong with politics, philosophy, intellectual pretension, treacly sincerity, and the universe. An incitement to ax murder. And if I'm ever on the jury of somebody who did, I'd vote to acquit.

The first Superman movie with Christoper Reeve was a real turd

I just remember when SNL did a lampoon, with Belushi playing Brando's "Jor-El"......."I will have been dead for many years, but I will have returned as Charlie Rich."

Yeah, same thing with Gandhi as Chariots of Fire. Won all of the awards and then people forgot about it.

I don't know about the movie much--I saw Chariots of Fire once, and only remember the basic premise. But the theme music is pretty awesome.

can someone explain to me when Allen “adopted”Soon-Yi Previn and what his relationship to her was before. From wiki

In 1978, Previn was adopted by Mia Farrow and André Previn and relocated to the United States;[4] at the time, she spoke no known language and reportedly battled learning disabilities.[1][4] Rose Styron acts as her godmother.[1]

In 1979, Mia Farrow ended her marriage to André Previn and began a long-term relationship with Woody Allen.[5] Allen later adopted two of Farrow’s adopted children: Dylan Farrow (also known as Eliza) and Moses Farrow. Farrow also gave birth to Ronan Farrow in 1987.
Previn’s intimate relationship with Woody Allen began in the late 1980s during Allen’s relationship with Previn’s adoptive mother, Mia Farrow.[10] Allen described his relationship with Previn as a “fling” that developed into a more significant relationship.[10] He has also both affirmed and denied that he acted as a paternal figure to Previn.[11] Their affair came to light when Farrow allegedly discovered Allen’s nude Polaroid photographs of Previn in late 1991 or early 1992.[1][4][12] While Previn denies sexual assault on Allen’s part, there are accounts suggesting that she was not the author of her published statements on the subject.[1][8] Previn’s relationship with Allen became public and “erupted into tabloid headlines and late-night monologues in August 1992.”[13] Farrow broke off her relationship with Allen in 1992 following the discovery of Allen’s affair with Previn.[14] As of 2006, Previn remained estranged from Farrow.[15]

Previn married Allen in Venice on December 22, 1997.[9][8] They have adopted two children together: Bechet Dumaine Allen and Manzie Tio Allen.[10] The family resides in the Carnegie Hill section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side.[16]

I do remember in the theater, when Jack became a popsicle, all the guys cheered.

Haha, that must have been hilarious.

I was in grad school at the time, and kept overhearing other students talking about it. One girl said that she'd seen it three times and still cried through the movie. I figured that if so many people had such good things to say, it must be an excellent movie, so I sacrificed three hours of study time to go see it with my son.

Gag.

It was horrible.

I just can't find myself engrossed by a movie about a woman having a fling with a derelict. Oh, yeah, the ship sank, too. But I already knew about that part.

Okay...try : BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, ALICE, THE CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION, SCOOP, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT, and THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO.

I'd also include SLEEPER and a few others, but didn't want to overdo it.

Both SCOOP ( see this one; it's one of his very best, that he's in ) and THE CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION have Woody in them, but none of the others do.

If you want to see one of his movies, thbat he is NOT in, but he makes fun of uber libtards and gets it SOOOOOOOOOOO right and it is funny too, then try EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE. YOU.

All I have to say about it is that anyone thinks what happened in this instance is acceptable is not someone I want to engage in a dialogue.

Mia and Woody NEVER married each other, nor did they live together! She and the kids lived on the Upper West Side; Woody lived on the Upper East Side!

and he did not adopt the girl. I don’t know what all the accusations are against him, because he chose the younger woman?

I was raised on the great fairy tales, Greek& Roman mythology, Bowlerized Shakespeare, Dumas, and the wonders of Victorian/Edwardian children's books. So once I had progeny of my own, my old books ( and the ones that my mother and grandmother had been read to too ) got pulled out for bedtime readings.

I'm pretty sure the Dr. Suess books were meant for children just learning to read. I loved them when I was 5, when I probably wasn't ready for the classical fairy tales and such. And they were way better than Fun with Dick and Jane, which I had to read in school and found inane, even at the age of 6.
