Angela Lansbury: attractive women 'must sometimes take the blame' for sexual harassment
Telegraph ^ | November 28, 2017 | Anita Singh

omen must accept some blame for sexual harassment and abuse because they “go out of their way to make themselves attractive” to men, Dame Angela Lansbury has said.

While other Hollywood actresses have condemned the stories that have surfaced since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, Dame Angela offered a strikingly different take.

“There are two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us - and this is where we are today.

“We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped,” the 92-year-old told Radio Times.

She added that the fault does not lie with individual victims: “Should women be prepared for this? No, they shouldn’t have to be. There’s no excuse for that. And I think it will stop now - it will have to. I think a lot of men must be very worried at this point.”

She then had the nerve to complain about men staring at her boobs.

Women always have a target and if the "right" man wasn't paying attention then it was a problem.

She's an old Dem loyalist.

If they go to a hotel with a man or walk the streets is one thing....but simply "attractive"?? Ridiculous...

She and my wife are on the same page.

I used to say that the reason there are more men in prison than women is because when men act out, it lands them in prison, but when women act out, they just ruin lives.

Well, after unbelievable drama with my daughter in law at the full family get together in Chicago, I realize I need to revise that phrase as follows:

There are more men in prison because when men act out, it lands them in prison, and when women act out, it causes their man to act out in ways that lands him in prison.

I slept through the worst part of it, but my wife said she thought about waking me and thought best that she didn’t. It’s a good thing, because I probably would have grabbed her HARD by the arms and threw her on the couch face down and sat on her until she calmed down. And that would have put me in jail because she gets unbelieveably wiry and feisty.

She got a DUI a couple of years ago and ended up being arrested because she fought the police with all her might. She is poison.

She verbally abused her 12 and 14 year old nieces and called them whores in front of everyone. Screamed it, actually. (those are two very sweet girls, BTW) And called her 15 year old son worthless and the only one she loves is her 7 year old daughter, and then said she hated her. And all the other things you could imagine.

But none of that puts you in prison.

A hundred years ago, this would have been easy to deal with, but you can’t use physical force against a crazy woman any more or you’ll get in trouble. So here we are.

Thanks for letting me vent.

If an attractive woman is wearing a dress that reveals the chest butt crack, she’s asking for pretty much anything she gets, verbally. If she doesn’t want it, she needs to cover up like everyone else.

I also think it’s funny when women walk one foot in front of the other to give their hips that sexy wiggle. Especially in the office. :)

At 92, I don’t really think she cares.

Yup. As Betty White says, "Honey, there hasn't been a cherry on my muffin since 1949!"

If you’re gonna put it on display, don’t act all shocked when people stare.

My lovely and brilliant wife has a saying, "Just because you can, does not mean that you should."

Do women have the right to dress any way that they want, then visit the apartments of Big Powerful Hollywood Producers after hours, alone? Without fear of being attacked/assaulted/harassed/whatever? In a word, yes. Men who take advantage of the situation are reprehensible and should be prosecuted.

However, should women behave in such a way? I'm not a female and thus have little insight, but if it were my daughter, I'd tell her "Absolutely Not." If you don't intentionally put yourself in a bad position to begin with, then you've drastically reduced your chances of having something untoward happen.

To get up on my soapbox.... Vice Pres Pence takes a lot of heat for his decisions to not meet in private with women, not drink and/or party after hours unless he's with his wife, and so on. He's a "Obvious Sexist" who is "Denying Women Access to His Time", or somesuch foolishness. However, it makes good sense to me, and if/when I'm ever in a position of power, I'll borrow a page or two out of his manual.

“I am reminded of a woman at my office years ago that always had her blouse half unbuttoned to show off her ample cleavage. She then had the nerve to complain about men staring at her boobs.”

A friend of mine got his new Jeep stolen. He had taken off the doors and would put the key up over the driver’s sun shade.

He shouldn’t have had his Jeep stolen, but he was reckless.

Same issue.

Good advice from Jayne Mansfield.

“The lady’s a trap. Too hot to handle. Keep well away or expect to be baked as a sacrifice, because the lady’s much too much to hot to handle”.

So Leeann Tweeden is to blame for Al Franken’s sexual assault?

No, but we have reached a point where "sexual advances" (being "hit on") is being characterized as "sexual harassment". An attractive woman who dresses provocatively is going to be hit on. Franken escalated hitting on Tweeden to the physical level after being rebuffed, and thereby crossed a line.

If this is the case, then why aren’t the most attractive women the only ones that are being groped? Why are women who are not near as attractive being considered a target when the man could get better in the eyes of society?

In most cases, it has nothing to do with Miss Right. It has to do with Miss Right Now. Better known as Miss Availableatthemoment. Hence the elevator comments on Conyers. Men don’t go to a street corner unless they are trolling.

So stop using make-up, eat what the hell you please and sit around on the couch. Don’t shave your legs and pits, either. That way, only unattractive men will knock you down and rape you!

Or, as they say, if you leave the uncovered meat, can you blame the cat for sniffing around?

I take her point to be that women dress provocatively because it serves them well, most of the time. Occasionally however, it backfires. That’s all she’s saying.

why do you say that? the only person i am interested in “getting attention” from is my husband. I don’t even make eye contact with other men if i do not have to, in order not to engage with them.

There’s a difference between “making yourself attractive,” as Ms. Lansbury put it, and acting like your coworker— and/or walking around dressed like a Sunset Boulevard hooker. I think Ms. Lansbury could have phrased it a bit differently, but I basically agree with her.

I don’t understand why women who offer sex for a movie role or a job are never prosecuted for bribery.

It seems to me all the actresses or actors who received an Oscar winning role because they provided sex should have to forfeit the award.
