Angela Lansbury: attractive women 'must sometimes take the blame' for sexual harassment
Telegraph ^ | November 28, 2017 | Anita Singh

omen must accept some blame for sexual harassment and abuse because they “go out of their way to make themselves attractive” to men, Dame Angela Lansbury has said.

While other Hollywood actresses have condemned the stories that have surfaced since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, Dame Angela offered a strikingly different take.

“There are two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us - and this is where we are today.

“We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped,” the 92-year-old told Radio Times.

She added that the fault does not lie with individual victims: “Should women be prepared for this? No, they shouldn’t have to be. There’s no excuse for that. And I think it will stop now - it will have to. I think a lot of men must be very worried at this point.”

She’ll be retracting her statement within 48 hours. I promise you.

So Leeann Tweeden is to blame for Al Franken’s sexual assault?

At 92, I don’t really think she cares.

Has Dr. Ruth weighed in on this?

I do believe they are more than a bit spoiled. Even dumb blonds can hold a serious conversation when they want to. Why should they?

The only thing worse for a woman than getting unwanted attention from men is not getting unwanted attention from men.

while I take no opinion on Angela’s statement, I am reminded of a woman at my office years ago that always had her blouse half unbuttoned to show off her ample cleavage. She then had the nerve to complain about men staring at her boobs.

How about if we agree that a civil compliment is NOT to be considered sexual harassment.
Right now the bar is set way too low, like an invisible trip wire.
I'd like a better definition of exactly what language and action is really harassment, what is merely bad manners and what is perfectly normal.
Most normal men and women already know this, Libs and Feminists seems to have problems distinguishing between serious and trivial problems.

I think Ms. Lansbury has a legitimate point. There is a line that some women cross in their dress. Modern feminists want to believe that biology doesn’t exist, that men are not designed by nature to conquer and mate with women. No, it doesn’t give men the right to rape any woman they see, but would you put candy in front of a baby and then be outraged when the baby takes the candy?

First of all, Angela, you ruin our Disney princess playlist with your elderly shaky voice and I’m sick of it. Second, at 90, it’s time to stop throwing yourself in with the gorgeous women. Third, while I respect modesty for girls and women, I do not blame attractiveness on sexual assaults. You’re wrong.

There, it’s out of my system now.

I had a roommate like that. She was a beauty with long red hair, and craaaaaaazy. She would head out ALONE to the beach in a white bikini, to lie alone on a towel with her eyes closed. I’m sorry, that is asking for trouble, and I told her, but she insisted it was ok. (By the way, if you men see a girl like that, stay away, they usually are the crazy bunny burner type like she was)

I remember a Freeper male saying this about 10 years ago and if memory serves . . . he was banned from the site.

Now all of a sudden it is becoming common sensical.

Mini-skirts with splits tend to have a negative response from males that were created by God to notice the other sex and desire to reproduce after his kind.

Of course I am not saying that we should adopt burkhas . . . but the Bible does speak of modest apparel for both sexes.

This is the thing.

There are two possible interpretations: 1. They are just being cheeky by complaining, they actually love people looking at their cleavage, but take no responsibility for any negative consequences, either for their colleagues or themselves. or 2. They do want people to look at their breasts and be attracted, but only certain people. So they get annoyed that unsanctioned humans become attracted, when they were only trying to get attention from one in particular. That seems the more common of the two, to my experience. “Yes I want to attract attention from men, but I didn’t mean YOU, for god’s sake!”

I guess Leeann Tweeden is a third option, someone who actually is making a good professional living showing off her unclothed breasts so Franken miming grabbing them is sort of acknowledging that was her profession at the time. The only reason any of us has ever heard her name was because she was naked a lot of the time.

Individual women are not to blame for this mess, generally speaking. There is something to be said, however, about the behavior and standards of many women these days, which has to have an effect on men.

Not that long ago, society was different. Women dressed modestly because they knew they would be labeled as “loose” or “easy”.....this was not desirable. Women wanted to attract decent men who wanted to marry. They didn’t parade around in skin tight clothing barely covering giant silicone boobs and stick them in everyone’s faces. Can you see Mary from It’s A Wonderful Life doing that? Or June Cleaver? Laura Petrie?

So many woman who are out there for men to see (Hollywood) talk like absolute pigs. Only the strongest and most decent of men would not think a person like this is open for anything. Good grief, between pornography, women being so openly base about sex, women sleeping around and joking about it, on and on.....how are men supposed to react. These pillars of virtue have to know that they are arousing a number of animals out there, and the results may not be what they want.

It would be lovely to go back to the days when woman called the shots by behaving decently, giving men a much higher standard to aim for.

We had an intern in our office who had been molested when young. She did the same thing: open blouse, and lean over in front of men. I figured she must have learned to flirt this way from her molester.
