Is California about to be hit by the 'Big One'? Fears of a massive earthquake rise...

FULL TITLE: Is California about to be hit by the 'Big One'? Fears of a massive earthquake rise after 134 mini-tremors rattle the San Andreas fault in just one week

Fresh fears have been raised that a huge earthquake is about to hit California after a swarm of recent tremors. In the last week 134 earthquakes have hammered a three-mile stretch around Monterey County on the San Andreas fault.

Of those earthquakes, 17 were stronger than 2.5 magnitude and six of them were stronger than 3.0, with more tremors expected in the coming weeks, experts warn.

It follows fears raised last week that the 'Big One' is about to hit after a series of ten 'mini quakes' struck the same area.

The swarm included one 4.6-magnitude quake that was felt in San Francisco more than 90 miles (145 km) away.

...

Last week's swarm hit California's Monterey County on Monday at 11:31am ET (4:31pm GMT) about 13 miles (20 km) northeast of Gonzales, near Salinas.

It dramatically increases the likelihood of a major quake in California, at least temporarily, experts claimed.

The initial 4.6-magnitude quake was followed by nine smaller aftershocks.

The largest of these measured magnitude 2.8, Annemarie Baltay, a seismologist with the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park, told SFGATE.

...

The quake happened at a depth of around 4 miles (6.5 km) on the infamous San Andreas Fault, close to a region where the Calaveras Fault branches off.

Experts have previously warned that any activity on the fault line is cause for concern.

'Any time there is significant seismic activity in the vicinity of the San Andreas fault, we seismologists get nervous,' Thomas Jordan, director of the Southern California Earthquake Centre, told the LA Times last year.

Day after day, more people move to LA
Don't you tell anybody that the whole place is shaking away.
Where can we go when there's no San Francisco?
Better get ready to tie up the boat in Idaho.

“ROFL! Where, in a phone booth?”

You will notice that California always leads the donation list on Free Republic. Going by that I will say California has more Conservatives than any other state.

Yup. He’s accurate. I’ve been watching Dutchsinse for awhile and he’s good. He believes that there’s probably a volcano erupting underwater in the Cascadia subduction zone that the USGS is not reporting in order to avoid public concern. He believes such an eruption is not a direct concern, but says that accurate information about seismic activity at that location would help anticipate larger “releases of pressure” (EQ) in the subduction zone and all down the coast of CA.

He believes that down the west coast where the fault lines lie, many small tremors are occurring in clusters. He has said that we wouldn’t expect a significant EQ as long as the movement small tremors continue on land (called slow slipping). He believes that when a location midway between two areas experiencing tremors becomes “too still” the likelihood of a significant earthquake increases the longer the midpoint is “still.”

If you watch a few of his full broadcasts that come out in the evenings, you can learn his methodology. He reviews his earthquake forecasts for accuracy and discusses current activity and makes new forecasts.

His creed is “Don’t be scared. Be prepared,” and he periodically reviews earthquake preparedness tips. Even if you don’t watch him, it’s always a good time to check the earthquake preparedness kit and talk to the family. :)

From north of SF to the Oregon border.

Really? What about all the old hippies living in the communes in the northern part of the state. Those that aren't too stoned to vote think that Bernie Sanders is a right-winger!

Yep. So so sooooo glad that I’m out of that nutty state. First place I’ve ever been to see highway billboards in Spanish. When I was there I wanted the gov’t to get the illegals out....now that I’m gone I just want “them” to stay in California and not infect the area that I’m at now. Give em Calif welfare I say. Give em Calif paid medical. Give em Calif foodstamps....just please keep em in Calif.

ROFL! Where, in a phone booth?

That would be a big phone booth.

Nearly 2 million more Californians voted for Trump than voted for Trump in your state.

Not the Big One, but the vlogger Dutchsinse has a earthquake forcast projecting a possible 4.5 plus or minus 1 magnitude in Southern California. He likes to put extra room above a projection so when he projects a 4.5, he wants people to make sure they are well prepared for a 5.5 or a little greater. At the end of the forcast period, he will consider this forcast as a “hit” if an EQ occurred within 200 miles of the projected location and within 1.0 magnitude. He’s usually right.
At the 25 minute mark of this video, he outlines conditions he believes would have to exist before we’d expect a very large earthquake in the Cascadia subduction zone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1IZoE6pdmA

Basically he says if the tremors along the shore/coast parallel to the Cascadia subduction zone (ocean) stop for 3 or 4 days, enough pressure would theoretically build up and trigger a very large “release” (earthquake).

There are as many conservatives in California as there
are total residents in Wisconsin.

There are more California FReepers than from any
other state.

Shove your phone booth up your ass.

Besides myself I wonder how many other Californians
prayed for the victims of the floods in Texas not
so long ago.
