It’s all about endorphins.

When I gave up smoking I started running to burn off the excess energy. I ended up running 21 marathons, 2 ultras, and I don’t know how many 5 and 10K’s.

The only one’s who got my “rage” up were fat asses in cars who would cut in front of me to make a turn (almost hitting me). Another time I remember running in a tire track in a snow covered road and a motorist expected me to divert into 8” deep snow so she could get by. My brandished set of keys convinced her to give me space.

Long distance running is addictive but you have to be in shape to get there. As for rage there is plenty of room for runners and others so long as everyone has manners.

So do you suffer from dirt bike rage?

I’ve been in the military almost 18 years, and thus have to run.

I’ve never experienced those endorphins. Running is miserable no matter how often I do it, my physical condition, etc.

As soon as I leave the military, I will stop running.

“$Runners can be obnoxious... but bicycle riders are the worst.”

Triathlete/iron man types combine the worst traits. Most are anorexic/bulemic/health food/vegetarian obsessed driven souls with some sort of mental issue and are trying to escape.

I enjoyed running when I was doing it, between my 8th and 9th babies. (Never really got going again after the last two kids, especially since my husband broke the treadmill I could use in the house.)

I think one clue to the “rage” is in a subject’s quote, “She interrupted an important training run.” He believes running/racing is important. That attitude about any activity naturally leads to a sense of entitlement and then anger at impediments, no matter how small.

Well, it’s pretty counterintuitive, isn’t it? I fell into the intervals trap. My 400m and 800m times improved, but my distance running (anything over a mile, really) got steadily worse despite the “new wisdom” telling me that intervals with maybe a single long run per week was the way to go.

No more!

Right before quitting my golf addiction, I was a complete jerk on the course. So I quit.

Yep, so did I for the same reason.

I've never seen this behavior.

For years I ran 5 miles a day, with other runners. Had to quit when I hurt my ankle. I always felt good while running. "Runners high," we called it. Endorphins flooding the bloodstream. Other runners always friendly and well-behaved.

I used to join other ham radio operators to provide communications for a marathon run in a nearby town. We'd be stationed at the water points to report on runners needing help, etc. Never saw an ill-behaved runner.

I can't say bad behavior never happens, but I had ample opportunity to observe it, and didn't see it.

Are you in a red state? This could be blue state behavior, I suppose.

I love to run. Haven’t done it in nearly 2 months, however, due to a busted ankle. At age 50, these things take time to heal. :-)

I agree. The pastor should step down if he would rather rage than minister.

I wouldn’t mind joining a race. I just wouldn’t expect to win with my awesome 11-12 minute mile.
