Again, how the heck do you know that she wouldn't have told a woman who was doing the same thing what she told, or asked, the guy. And "fatspreading" is something a person, woman or man, typically cannot help, unlike deliberately sitting with ones legs far apart. What is an overweight person supposed to do, tuck their excess fat away somewhere?
Sexually harass a stranger, get punched in the face.
I guess this is why they want to get rid of “toxic masculinity”. Women cannot compete in physical altercations with men (there are exceptions of course). That makes being a SJW and by oneself on a train kinda limited — as she found out.

You must not get out much. Go into a big city like LA and start shooting off your mouth to total strangers. I would never recommend doing that. Only a naive fool would do that believing they’re somehow isolated from violent mental cases who enjoy others peoples pain and don’t give zip what you think.
I’m pretty old school, I find it hard not to refer to a female as a lady....I agree it is often an undeserved title.
The idea of someone striking a ‘lady’ is just very offensive to me.

I actually agree with you 100% on that. Either stay quiet or get up and move to another part of the car. Because it’s beyond foolish for a woman or skinny guy to talk to a punk like that in a way even approaching offensive, no matter what sort of crap he was doing. In any case, she certainly didn’t deserve to get punched in the face over anything that was said between them like someone here said. That is really twisted thinking.
When in public nowadays, it's smart policy to keep your mouth shut. This lady must have thought she was rubbing elbows with the Grey Poupon crowd riding in a stretch limo instead of some filthy public subway or train.
You are making an embarrassment of yourself, and normally your standards are higher than this.
The woman wasn't “complaining.”
She was shoveling out derogatory epithets.
Perhaps she might have considered not vomiting out the “Manspreading” term and using ladylike behavior.
Just a possibility.
We will never know if that might have produced a different result because the woman was uncivil to begin with.
Don't go all Gloria Steinem on us and keep insisting there is not a predictable and earned consequence for her attitude.
Women who reject the concept of being ladies like this one did forfeit the expectation of men behaving as gentlemen.
The concept is that of a social contract. Replacing it with a sense of unbridled entitlement as this woman has done is like a Sheep looking for wolves outside the herd and charging them.
That gets what she was getting here. Through no planning of her own there was an off duty sheep dog to rescue her from the consequences she engendered.

When in “no go zones” in NYC, it is probably best to keep lessons in etiquette and courtesy to yourself.
I was in error, on one point. According to the article, she didn’t actually “complain”. She simply asked him to stop crowding her. Afterwards, after he had punched her in the face and said to her what he did, she used the f-word a few times. But you can't blame her for being upset at that point, can you?

As I've stated a couple times above, I agree that she shouldn't have said anything to that little p*ssy that might have been taken as even slightly offensive. Now if she were built like the brave and decent guy who came to her aid it would be a completely different story.
In any case, I would advise her in the future to simply get the hell up and move to a different part of the car if some creep spread his legs wide apart while sitting next to her in one of those small 2-person bench seats at the end of subway cars.
Like as a lot of dopey people do, or don't do, in a situation like this, she should have got the hell up and moved to a different car at that point, with him going nuts like he did. Instead, she simply puts her ear buds in and attempts to ignore him. That was pretty stupid on her part.
WTH is wrong with you? So asking somebody not to take up two spaces on public transportation is deserving of a bloody lip?
Why shouldn’t men or women sit with their legs together in order so other people have room?
People today watch all this television and then incorporate the snarky epithets from the sitcoms into their interactions with other people.
Two parent families taught politeness and civility.
Neither of the two younger people in this farce demonstrated any awareness of those concepts.
