Actress Reese Witherspoon has revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a director when she was 16 years old, the latest in a series of claims about abuse in the film industry.

“This has been a really hard week for women in Hollywood, for women all over the world, and a lot of situations and a lot of industries are forced to remember and relive a lot of ugly truths,” Witherspoon said at an event in Beverley Hills this week.

“I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly and I find it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate a lot of the feelings that I’ve been having about anxiety, honestly, the guilt for not speaking up earlier.”

She divulged, “I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly and I find it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate a lot of the feelings that I’ve been having about anxiety, honestly, the guilt for not speaking up earlier.” Witherspoon, who debuted on the silver screen at 15, continued, “[I feel] true disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16 years old and anger at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment.”

The Academy Award-winning actress went on to claim that the incident was just one of a number of times she had been sexually abused throughout her career. “I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly it wasn’t,” she said. “I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don’t speak about them very often.

Were these actresses dropped on Earth from an alien spaceship? Didn't any of these teenagers have responsible parents?

Of the two options, I’d go with the Disney movie in 93. The 92 director she worked with again on Sweet Home Alabama.

Understand that every female (and every child and likely most males) have done well in Hollywood because of the “casting couch.”

She managed to survive with her hubris intact.

Came out in 1993. If it was filmed in 1992 she would have been 16.

Jack the Bear (1993)
Full Cast & Crew
Directed by Marshall Herskovitz

Just what was the specific nature of these alleged multiple “sexual assaults”?

Were they Harvey Weinstein-style perversions or were they just some guy asking for a date?

Perhaps Ms. Witherspoon’s publicist just felt her career needed a boost.

Just sayin’

Like most of the others, some time after she/they extracted the maximum amount of financial value from the encounter.

It certainly seems like Briffault’s Law has been followed chapter, line and verse.

They tried this once with Bill Clinton. Lot of Republicans ended up resigning.

I’ll probably get flamed but she’s done well.

That's what they hop on that couch. 20-30 minutes of discomfort and humiliation for Reese Witherspoon's success. Few girls would say no, and those that do get a bus ticket back home to Loserville and maybe their old job at Walmart. They'll never work in Hollywood.

So miss Do you know who I am’s parents let her be sexually abused over and over again or is she saying her parents didn’t do their job? Of course to feminists, saying you’re pretty is sexual abuse to them.

In 1992 she would have been shooting a movie for 1993 release, and it’s set in Africa probably shot on lot’s of remote locations.

Mind you, I really do not like the idea of using the behavior of dirtbags and the tears of actresses to make a point. Real men would take these losers out back and beat some sense into them. I am also a free market capitalist and I don't want to regulate anything unless it is in line with the intent of the Founders.

That said, how does the saying go...you never let a serious crisis go to waste?

My money is on Diane Keaton.

Only time I like seeing her is when Sonny Corleone pops her

Good point. What qualifies as assault these days could be anything from someone asking for a date to rape.

How about ‘A Far Off Place’? Director Mikael Solomon, Producer Frank Marshall. I really loved this movie and took my son to see it. We own this movie, too. There are loads of producers and directors involved with Witherspoon’s younger movies. Unless she is willing to divulge, guessing is a fool’s errand.
