Laughing out loud!
This will be my second year of not watching. The pink crap really bugged me, so did the anthem protests but the thing that really did it was when I realized it was taking 3 hours plus to play a one hour game!
Will they EVER consider that it may be politics? Even in Hollywood, some people were questioning if the Emmys were too political (Deadline and TVLine).
Never mentioned is how committed other players would be supporting these “hey look at me tantrums” if money came out of their pockets.
The first four weeks are unwatchable.. the players are not yet in game shape, the officials are ironing out the new rules, and the three hour long commercial that’s running is sometimes interrupted by an activity that closely resembled football.
Now the overpaid children are disrespecting their customers by protesting the flag..
Bad product, poor presentation and pissing off the customer base is not a good business model.
That will make the difference I hope.
One of David Stern’s last acts was going all-in on streaming video. The NBA will let you post nearly anything involving its product on youtube or other social media and not come after you. And it’s encouraged its players interact with fans on social media to a near insane degree.
At this point, the NBA probably has the brightest future of any of the big US sports.
MLB’s average fan is a man in his mid 50s, the game is endless, and the current style of nothing but strikeouts and home runs is .
The NFL is going to have a serious manpower problem in the next 20 years, because mothers can read and don’t want their 13 year old son destroying his brain. And everything the NFL does to make the sport “safer” only makes it more unwatchable.
It would be fascinating to see where the NFL would be without fantasy football.
Letting the fans put stuff on social media isn’t really the league going in on streaming video. That’s the league understanding free publicity. The NFL has been all in on streaming video for a few years now, they have the Sunday Ticket, the Game Pass, each of their network partners has an app.
NBA’s future is actually pretty bleak. Their ratings have been in the toilet for close to a decade. It’s the ultimate haves and have nots league and they suffer from the lack of fan buy in that generates. Let’s face it, when everybody already knows that the finals are going to be Warriors-Cavs IV (unless the Celtics find a way around the Cavs) there’s not a lot of reason to watch any games before the finals. And their ratings and attendance figures show that apathy.
MLB is in deep trouble. Too many games, too slow, no action.
The kids playing football thing is overplayed. Yes youth TACKLE football is seeing a droppage, but youth FLAG football has seen a rise in signups far above the drop in tackle. Meanwhile the international market is growing, especially in the youth football. There’s nothing wrong with the safety measures in the NFL, injuring players lowers the quality of the team and slows the game. Sure whiny people like to whine about the new rules, but they’ve been doing that since the 70s. Biggest problem the NFL is facing right now, over and above the demographic changes that are hurting everybody, is they’re starting to lean towards the NBAs have and have nots problem. Way too many teams are permanently crappy. For a while they had good parity and it was a serious “any given Sunday” league. But that’s largely gone, it’s not quite as bad as the NBA, you can still envision 5 or 6 teams making the SB before the season starts, but he league is better served when that number is around 10. And they’re having way too many prime time games where both teams suck.
