It is the hurricanes or the earthquakes and the ol reliable The Russians!
if this spreads to college sports too, you can expect a serious decline in the sport of football - a sport I love - a sport in which I played and coached. This bothers me greatly. I have always hated the way it has become big money “entertainment.” But the game itself I do love.
The worst part: The Black Lives Matter crowd/people who are protesting against Kaepernick not being hired are taking credit for the ratings slide. Ugh.
NFL in a difficult position from THEIR point of view.
Culturally, they are a near extension of BLM and that mindset dominates in the locker room.
Their customers are predominately WASP.
Jerry Jones and Lamar Hunt have it right. Stand for the Anthem, or stand and walk the eff out of here. No quarter.
The Kap and current Anti-American NFL players will cost NFL $200 million
just this season.
The joke will eventually be on these players, as player contracts will
decline as NFL Team revenues decline.
Since 70% of NFL players are black, who will take the majority of
contract salary declines?
From the article...
“Pundits, meanwhile, continue to opine on the reason for the fall, with some trying mightily to dismiss a J.D. Power survey in July that put most of the blame on players who protest the National Anthem, the most prominent of them being Colin Kaepernick, who does not currently play for an NFL team.
That survey indicated 30 percent of the viewers who watched less football in 2016 than they did the season prior said they did so because they were offended by players protesting the anthem.”
Parasitic infections are often fatal to the host.
BLM is a parasite that is sucking the life out of the NFL. Of course, if the NFL were willing, they could end it he infection tomorrow. But they don’t have the guts.
Numbnuts, like Ezekiel Elliott aren’t helping, neither.
People used to have the false notion that the NFL was a patriotic organization. This was never true. Any patriotic aspect of the league was nothing but cynical marketing. What is different now is that people are able to see the truth.
ping!
I would’t write off the NFL quite yet (although I would love to, and I’ve stopped watching). No one is better at socializing risk and privatizing profit, they have always found a way to do this.
Like the Olympics before it, the NFL began catering to all kinds of special promotions (eg pink uniform trim, etc) in order to 'virtue signal' and demonstrate to (potential) advertiser its ability to appeal to more emotional viewers. Part & parcel of these initiatives were its hard-core propaganda campaigns, including the laughable 'football is family' meme.
However, the real impact of these programs was the same as NASCAR. That is, by appealing to an expanded base, the treated their loyal, built-in fans with disdain. As a result, the NFL progressively killed the pace & flow - and thus seat-of-your-pants interest - of the game with both penalties and incessant commercials.
Today we have the perfect storm of an entertainment package that was already past its sell date, becoming tired and shop worn. Viewers were ready to express their disapproval with some kind of legitimate expression.
And like a god send, in walks Kap, et al. So, now we have virtuous, righteous indignation, by both those who are truly offended, and others who were looking at some way to stick it to the people who allowed greed to kill the golden goose.
Well I do go to restaurants but I always smile at everyone working there and if there is an issue I seldom complain.
So far this year I am 100 percent NFL free. They can spit in someone else's food.
And it isnt just viewers and tickets in decline.
Taxpayers will be more likely to reject stadium referendums
Yes, the pink stuff has bugged me for years. The need to have a female play by play person in the Monday night game last week was awful. If she was better at it, maybe I could take it, but she sucked. Then, last Sunday night, I couldn’t help but notice they had a girl moderating the pre and post game discussion, the role that Rich Eisen used to play. Rich Eisen, totally unathletic and wimpy, and he was bad enough. But I found it striking that this lady was in charge, and Steve Young and Randy Moss had to listen to her take and respond. They looked uncomfortable. I didn’t care what she said or thought, I wanted to hear from some Hall of Famers.
How to use Sling TV Blue to slice the $s from ESPN and Disney.
When anyone cuts their cable, Sling is a reasonable alternative.
We had both the Sling Orange and Sling Blue. One of our relatives, who hates ESPN/NFL gave us a great heads up.
Sling Blue doesn't carry any ESPN or Disney channels.
We didn't watch ESPN or Disney, however, they were getting money from us by our subscribing to Sling Orange each month when we paid our Sling bill. The same happens with your standard cable contract. ESPN and Disney get paid each month from your subscription if you watch them or not.
I got that info from my our relative, Friday. A few minutes later I had cancelled Sling Orange. So ESPN and Disney get zero money from my Sling Blue monthly subscription payment.
What Is Sling Blue?:(from their site)
Sling Blue costs $25 per month and gives you access to 43 live channels. However,
Blue does not include every Orange channel by default; theres no Disney and no ESPN, for starters.
Of course the fact of the matter is ALL sports ratings are down, there’s a demographic shift going on and they just aren’t that into sports. And the NFL is still pulling the biggest numbers. So everybody taking credit is wrong.
