A wildlife photographer and an animal rights group have reached a settlement in perhaps the weirdest lawsuit of the century.
David Slater and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have been at loggerheads for years over who owns the rights to the famous "monkey selfie" taken by a curious macaque in 2011.

If this precedent holds, any deer who trips a game camera is due for a big pay-off, or rather the people who bring the suit on behalf of the deer.

Non-humans cannot own anything. Where this is going is “rights” for animals. In about 40 years animals will be able to “own” things and property. They will be able to sue humans. They will be able to vote. They will be able to hold public office.
This will happen. No doubt about it. Maybe not in 40 years, but it will happen.
