OK Freepers, what is the best charity to give to support Harvey?
The Red Cross? I have been hearing them panned since Vietnam.
What about the Salvation Army?
Hey, the Clinton Foundation did great work in Haiti, just ask Hillary.
What are your suggestions?
I still go with Red Cross. Biggest operation; this is their expertise.
No one is perfect and I’m putting politics aside for this one. Donated yesterday; my company has dollar for dollar match.
Samaritan’s Purse, Salvation Army or Operation Blessing. I’ll be donating to Samaritan’s Purse.
Donate directly to Second Baptist church in Houston.
Call Christian Broadcast Network and Samaritan’s Purse. Or look on their website’s for what they are doing in the aftermath of Harvey.
I have donated monthly to CBN since 2001. They have done amazing jobs in getting their fully inventoried trailers to hard hit areas providing prayer, food, repair hands and materials to those in dire need.
Shining the love of Christ to those in need brings Him to that soul to strengthen them and guide them to Him!
We are going to try to get to LaGrange, TX today and will update later. Today is a good day to get out and help others in need.
Personally, I also feel God pleading for our return to Him and not being complacent with evil expanding all around us (Islam in TX, lawbreakers, illegals, etc.). Arise to lead the lost to Him.
I wouldn’t give the time of day to the Red Cross due to a personal experience during a mid-1980s flood in Tulsa.
Salvation Army was who I usually donated to, but I have heard some negative things about them in recent years. I also specifically requested they NOT put me on their donors list for future mailings and requests for donations. They put me on the list anyway and occasionally send me requests for donations.
Several years ago I donated a rather signficant amount [for me] to a groups supposedly to help returning injured vets get laptop computers. That group turned into a professional fund-raising group and was sending nearly-weekly requests for donations. Their materials were costly to produce and deliver. A few months of their ‘give-me’ materials cost more than the meager donation I made. I asked them to remove me from their list. It took 2 different requests and a couple of ‘return to senders’ before they quit sending me stuff.

There was an Amish group and a Baptist group that helped us out at our church after Superstorm Sandy. They were such a blessing. I would look into any church group that is heading down there to help.
Won’t comment on any other organizations, but I will comment on the Reverend Franklin Graham.
He can be trusted 100%.

Both the Red Cross and Salvation Army cancelled events at Trump facilities b/c they were too butthurt over “his Charlottesville comments”....
FRanklin Graham’s. Sumaritans Purse It’s good enough for the Palins, Trumps and Hannity. It’s reliable’. They had truck loads of needed materials ready for delivery waitin on storms edge. Distributed through local churches
The Methodist, Lutheran , Catholic Church and other denominations also have relief work going on. Check with your local church.
American Red Cross has 3 out of 4 star rating at Charity Navigator, points deducted for diversion of assets.
Samaritan’s Purse or the Southern Baptist Church’s North American Mission Board Disaster relief. From their website:

Other than them pulling out of Mar-A-Lago, have they done anything else worthy of your butthurtedness?
Are you willing to make the stand against the organization at the cost of the people that they help (or could help)
What you donate to them will not necessarily go to Harvey victims.
Donate to a local charity that you know is connected to relief efforts
I, like you, was a big fan of the Salvation Army. Certainly over the Red Cross, but when they crossed Mar-a-Lago off their list of places to hold their events, for political reasons, I crossed them off my list.
Austin Pets Alive has been on the ground saving pets in Houston and is my choice
