OK, we all know of PCH. Been around forever. I just got a call which said I won. Kinda of a long call. To the point. They/he said I needed to wire $45 to an individual in Star City, Arkansas to pay for taxes. Now was expecting a lot lot more to pay for taxes, but it was only $45. For just $45 I'm half inclined to wire the money.
Anybody hear about this scam? One the one hand she wore@$%^#$^#$^ wait a minute,,,,,
It just seems a complete waste of time to make a phone call for just $45.
Please do not do this.
Look up the number for Publisher’s Clearinghouse and call them. They can tell you if it’s a scam or legit (it sounds like a scam to me.)
Send the money to FR. At least you'll get something for your money.
Tell 'them' to just withhold the taxes from your 'winnings'
I actually won 100 from them once, no call or anything just the money in the mail.
If it’s “too good to be true,” it is REALLY too good to be true.
SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geebus,.... Tell them to take the $45 out of your winnings.
[[To the point. They/he said I needed to wire $45 to an individual in Star City, Arkansas to pay for taxes.]]
NO- do not do this! You will pay taxes on your winnings IF you get them- and yes- you WILL pay a lot more in taxes than $45- this is a total scam- the old saying is true- “If it sounds too good to be true then it’s not true”
And then they’ll call you back saying there’s some small snag, just wire a hundred dollars more and it will all get straightened out. After this a Nigerian Prince will call and tell you about the large amounts of cash waiting for you, but in order to repatriate this money you need to send him $1,500.
If it were real, you would have to fill out tax forms with your SS# so that the payout would be reported to the IRS along with any taxes paid or due.
Money ALWAYS has a paper trail unless you are a Democrat....
Scam.
I have never heard of a contest where you have to send them money, to collect a monetary prize. Wouldn’t they just “deduct” the “taxes”, and send you the difference?
Don’t be stupid.
The commercials show they show up at your house with vans, and balloons, and a poster board sized check.
At least call and check it out...but if you’re just dying to blow $45, email me and I’ll give you my address.
Was the call from a Nigerian area code?
Of course it is a scam.
I get a dozen similar scam offers in my email every day. Luckily, my ISP email server moves most of them to a ‘spam/scam’ folder.
If it isn’t the Nigerian prince, is the Secretary of State or the UN or the FBI or MI-6 or the Irish lottery or the EURO lottery or a gift for my new account (I didn’t open an account) with XYZ Bank or Store, etc.
If I COULD collect on all of them, I would have over a $Billion is a week.
If you want to waste $45, that is your prerogative. Or light a match to it. About the same difference.
Tell them it is not the hills they think.
I used to get these offers from my “good friend in Christ”, the Prince of Nigeria ...
Do you live in Oregon? Just wonderin’
Appears they be looking for parents afflicted with Down’s Syndrome who attempt to raise their children. TPTB will come in and take the children for lack of sufficient parental IQ
In your case, sounds like someone looking for ‘da bucks to buy a tank of gas to flee the area in his Winnebago. They found themselves a little short.
Ask to speak to Ed McMahon, first. s/
The person who called didn’t claim to be the late Ed McMahon, did he?
