Stockholm (AFP) - Experts on Tuesday urged sightseers flocking to catch a glimpse of a rare white elk in Sweden to take care, warning that the animal could be dangerous.
Video footage of the animal posted online has gone viral in recent days, prompting people to head for the central Varmland region where it was spotted.
"Elks can get irritated,...and then they're dangerous," said Goran Ericsson, a professor of animal ecology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
"I would advise people to keep their distance," he told AFP. A typical elk weighed between 400 and 600 kilos (880 to 1,320 pounds), he pointed out.

I have to ask....how did that happen? A moose just doesn’t sneak up on ya. I have been bitten by my last dog when she was playing...it hurt.
Moose bite has to be painful and very nasti.

Racist moose. People think this moose is dangerous. Really?
Bet he isn’t as dangerous as all those moozies let in to that country.
I was pretty sure there was a difference. But then thought maybe it was like "Bison" and "Buffalo", where it's common place to refer to American Bison as "Buffalo", even though they are not. Buffalo, IIRC, are only found in Africa, and are actually called "Water Buffalo". I think I got that right? Too lazy to check right now.
I don’t really know the exact difference but I think you’ve gotcher
Cape Buffler in Africa and yer Water Buffler in Asia.
In Americer ya gotcher real buffler which is actually a Bison.
But if you get too close to one you’ll know it’s real! ;^)
White Moose
White Elk
How did the elk react to the warning?
That really is amazing.
.
Somebody gave them Indian names.
It’s amazing how snow white they are. Other than some dirt smudges there’s not a speck of dark color on them.
Neither one is an albino either.
As with just about everything in the natural world, it’s actually more complicated than we are aware...
Buffalo (or buffaloe) primarily refers to:
African buffalo or Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer)
Bubalus, a genus of bovines including various water buffalo species
Wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee)
Water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)
Italian buffalo or Italian Mediterranean buffalo, a breed of water buffalo
Anoa
Tamaraw (Bubalus mindorensis)
Bison
American bison (Bison bison), also commonly referred to as the American buffalo or simply “buffalo” in North America
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo
“Of the two surviving species, the American bison, B. bison, found only in North America, is the more numerous.
Although generally known as a buffalo in North America, it is only distantly related to the true buffalo.”

Thanks! I was just kidding about Bison being real buffalo
but I had no idea there were so many kinds of water buffalo.
Rare white elk draws crowds in Sweden
Not one picture of its drawings...
And each one of the various different types apparently include a bunch of sub-species and assorted variants. Same for most if not every creature on earth.
The reason the rack is white is because it is covered in the velvet and that grows the same color as the hair.
White elks are rare but it is a normal colorant not a genetic defect like being an albino.
The white Swedes will soon join the white elk in the endangered species list in Sweden.
