Why was he stealing those? Doubt if they were worth much as scrap.

He's got a REEALY BIG model railroad set!

There is a guy in Maryville, TN that had a full scale Engine behind his home on an oval.

It was operational. 1970’s.

How can one transport something if it’s missing?

missing as in "stolen." just because something is missing does not mean it doesn't exist...

Eh. Last night’s epi of the German cop show “Bukow & Konig” was centered around a murder in the scrap-picking social set.

I just took in 800# of scrap steel and only got $23 for it... not even worth the time it took loading it really, but better than paying to get rid of it. His 2000# would have barely been $50 IF the scrap guy took all his stolen steel... They know to keep an eye out for city property like water main and man hole covers... I would assume railroad steel is on their list too.

I probably have about that same amount sitting.

It isn’t worth the effort to haul it.

Most of them probably would not pass a drug test.

“Yep, Tarris Lamont died in the commission of a crime of worthless scrap.”

Might have been worth $150 at the scrapyard.

... and Wilkins was ejected.

I guess his nickname of "Crow" wasn't for his ability to scatter and fly to safety.

A deliberate misnomer, perhaps?

“The penalties for screwing with railroad tracks are very severe.”

In a roundabout way I know of a American who helped a Chechen Mafia steal 12 miles of rails in Georgia back in the early 90’s.

Working for a railroad, I see piles of those tie plates all the time. They make an enticing target for scrap metal thieves. I think that the scrap yards classify them as “short steel” which sells for a better price per pound.

Unscrupulous scrap dealers could care less where the material comes from. As long as the cops don’t show up and know what they’re looking for, they’ll buy metal from anyone. It all goes into the furnaces in china anyways.

“You’d be surprised how much time and effort these guys put into procuring scrap. They’d be better off finding a job that pays 12 bucks an hour......... “

Yea, and work under some idiot boss’? Part of the reason for collecting scrap and cans is the independence.

I cant think of other ways to be self employed immediately for zero cash
