SAT is rAciST /s
I have never known another teacher in my lifetime to grade in such a way, but I've always suspected that his method was considered typical before the 1960s.
An A today is probably equivalent to a C 50 years ago.
They’re lowering the standards is why more kids are getting “A”’s.
Eye em Smrt. Ess - emm - arrr - tee SMRT!
but but but, they get high marks in social justice ideals, drug experimentation, and being affable (except to conservative values individuals for which they get extra credit if they demonize them).
>>Meanwhile, their average SAT score fell from 1,026 to 1,002 on a 1,600 point scale.
And this is with the “adjusted” SAT scores from 1996 to hide the failures of public schools.. A score of 1002 today is only equivalent to 890 on the original scale.
To be totally honest, an SAT score of 1002 is not even equivalent to a C. I don’t think it is possible to earn a worthwhile college degree with that score. Why are we fooling ourselves?
It’s a cycle. The crooked education industry spent years inflating SAT scores. Now they are inflating school grades.
ACT tests are a much better assessment than the SAT. Many colleges now ignore the SAT and use ACT scores, my son’s college did.
Its our increasingly bureaucratic and useless public schools pushing kids towards “college”
Its another tax-payer funded racket in which all the players benefit off of public money and massive debt.
I saw on the news a month or so back that 40 students in a local high school had perfect 4.0 averages when they graduated.
I graduated in 1965 and our valedictorian didn’t have a perfect average.
College has become nothing but a participation trophy.
If a student turns in an assignment on time and it contains a basic set of requirements (such as it contains 600 words and addresses 4 questions), the assignment gets a perfect score regardless of the quality of the work.
If a student spends enough time and money they will graduate.
simple dumb down the test
I found some of my old report cards from 63 years ago. I still wonder how I made it out of school.
I remember a survey done about 15 years ago that compared public school student’s self esteem vs academic achievement. Students in DC schools scored the highest in the country in math ability self esteem and the lowest in the country in actual math results.
The language skills of college graduates that I encounter is appalling. Even the network anchors and presidential candidates say “If I was you...” instead of “If I were you...” I knew good grammar by the time I was 10 years old.
It is not only public schools. My oldest (a rising sophomore at a private high school in Tampa area) is of average intelligence but has straight As. So do all of his friends. Trust me when I say not one of these children show any smarts, drive, or academic curiosity.
What was the gentleman’s C in the olden days (like when I was in HS 30 years ago) has now become the gentleman’s A.
“A” grades have become like participation trophies in youth sports; just for showing up and turning in the assignment, you get an “A.” If you show up and turn in half the assignments, you get a “B.” If you show up and turn in a few assignments, you get a “C.” If you show up and don’t turn in any assignments, you get a “D.” If you show up and beat up the teacher, you get a special tutor.
