America’s worst states to live in 2017 [for liberals]

Far be it from us to throw shade on your home sweet home, but the data does not lie. The Quality of Life category in our annual America's Top States for Business study ranks all 50 states on overall livability based on metrics, including crime rate, attractions, air quality, health and health care and legal protections against discrimination...

10. KENTUCKY.. More than a quarter of adults are regular smokers in Kentucky, the highest rate in the country. The state also has the nation's highest rate of cancer deaths and one of the highest rates of cardiovascular deaths...

9. (tie) NEW MEXICO... has one of the highest violent-crime rates in the country...

9. (tie) TENNESSEE... among the most violent in the country...with high rates of cancer and diabetes..

7. MISSISSIPPI... is one of only 5 states with no law protecting non-disabled people against discrimination...

6. INDIANA... lacks some basic protections against discrimination based on marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity...

5. MISSOURI... also lacks statewide protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, marital status, and gender identity. And the state is near the bottom for public health funding...

4. ARKANSAS... The natural state here: inactive, unhealthy, and crime-ridden.

3. OKLAHOMA... Heavy tobacco use — yes, Okies are smoky — contributes to one of the highest rates of premature death in the nation. The state has one of the worst infant mortality rates, and reported mental health issues are widespread. Despite that, Oklahoma ranks in the bottom five states for health insurance coverage.

2. LOUISIANA... this is America's fattest state. It is also among the most dangerous, with the nation's highest murder rate.

1. ALABAMA Sweet home? Not if you are over 50, a minority, gay or transgender and you are concerned about discrimination. Alabama is one of only five states with no statewide legal protections for those groups, making it one of America's least inclusive states. It is also one of America's least healthy states, with the nation's third-highest rate of premature deaths. On a positive note, the skies are blue and the governor's true.

“Meanwhile, the cost of living seems to have been left out...”

The cost of living is very low in states where Life Expectancy is 48.

I was raised there. The last place I had in E. TN was off 321 in Lenoir City. It was great. Still have a home in Smyrna.

I currently reside N of Charlotte. I like it here as well.

How can we get Texas on this list of 10 worst places for Progressive-Socialist-Communists to live?

Keep men out of women's rest rooms?

I have lived in Alaska for last 20 years. As soon as I can wrap up some business here I am moving to Texas. I don’t really care what this rating says. Alaska is a dying socialist state. Texas is going to be my home. I have lots of family there and I have had three USAF assignments there. I was born in Louisiana but Texas is my home.

Alabama has the 3rd highest high-school graduation rate. And it has a cost-of-living-adjusted median income 20% higher than New York.

But it does not require saluting the flag of Sodom.

1,200 people a day move to Dallas/Ft Worth. Read that again.

The study and the introduction’s own criteria are comtradictory and illogical. How does ‘protection from discrimination’ equate to a good business climate? If such protections produced economic activity then why are NY, CA, and other progressive utopias not economically vibrant and drawing new residents?

Because in liberalism the only "good" business is the one that promote LGBT evil.

We will be happy to welcome another conservative to Texas, thus canceling a migrating Californian’s vote. Thank you for your service to our country.

NM has a lot of drug problems in the SW portion of the state, the border with Mexico is virtually wide open. Luna and Hildago counties have their share of meth labs. If you travel through NM south of I-10, pack a pistol and rifle with you.

In 2002, I interviewed for a job with the school district in Lordsburg. I was not familiar with the area and was astounded to see that just about all of the businesses in the downtown district were closed. It seemed that I was considering moving to a ghost town. I learned that the whole region was depressed because the market for copper, on which the economy depends, was bad.

I didn't get the job, but at the school, they proudly showed me a new machine they had acquired that makes cards for the card catalog in the school library. Later, I stopped at the public library in Columbus--about 30 miles south of I-10--and noticed that it also had a card catalog. This was the last library in which I ever used one.

While driving east from Columbus toward El Paso late at night, I wondered if New Mexico State Route 9 might have inspired Andy Williams' hit song Lonely Street. The only other vehicles I remember seeing were Border Patrol SUV's. The border was just to the right of the highway. Later, after crossing a north-south road at a stop sign, a couple of vehicles flashed their headlights at me. I could see they were Border Patrol, and had I proceeded east, I would have crossed into Mexico.

we REALLY get pissed when you think it's an educational 'right' to force-feed it down an eight-year-old's throat. History and biology are irrefutable. We are normal. You are not. You defiled pervert.

Like as the demonized men of Sodom sought to force their way into Lot's house, so the demons behind the LGBT movement seek to force their way into every place.

Getting a river spot is tough. Cost is through the roof and the Little River is prone to flooding. All gulf hurricanes lay waste to the TN side of the Appalachians.

Maybe Newport or Sweetwater. I’m still planning.

The compiler of this list certainly doesn’t like smokers. But they seem to love “pole smokers.”

Only tobacco is demonized.

The Atlanta metro area might be one reason it’s not up there. It’d take another Sherman-style siege to set that city right again.

Nice. Our old property is off Gilbert Ln. It was something my dad bought back in the day. Mom built her home on it.

It’s a log cabin. Good place to wake up to every morning.

Go check it out. This was really old school and 321 didn’t exist for years. The old marina across the cove was open along with Ed’s dock under the bridge.

There have been some new developments between Maryville and Sevierville that you might add to that list. Also, if you are retired, you might add Townsend to that list. The prices are slightly higher, but not much. The biggest problem is finding a nice place that is actually being sold. If you like solitude, there are some mountain subdivisions in the Walland and Townsend area.

Yep. Good river spots are tough. Even a good mountain view site is tough. The best spots have mostly been taken, although a few new subdivisions being developed have some.

We bought about 20 years ago. Had a friend who was a real estate agent. Stumbled on a great find. We actually live along the Little River with a great view of Thunderhead Mountain. Got it cheap, because the owner was trying to raise money to develop another property. As far as flooding, yes it occasionally floods. It has flooded four times in the last twenty years, but our house is set back from the river above the flood level. Flood waters recede within 24 hours.

Less than five miles to town. Twenty-five miles to Knoxville (in case we need something that we can't get locally.) Eleven miles to the National Park. People are great. Beats blue-state city life.

Did I mention that life is good?

It’s at Unitia.

I drive through there when I can. I do miss it.
I would get up a 5am when I was a kid and take a 12ft boat with a two horse evinrude out to the channel.

I was about 12. It was all good. (and yes, I got the gas and mixed it. It wasn’t rocket science)
