America’s worst states to live in 2017 [for liberals]

Far be it from us to throw shade on your home sweet home, but the data does not lie. The Quality of Life category in our annual America's Top States for Business study ranks all 50 states on overall livability based on metrics, including crime rate, attractions, air quality, health and health care and legal protections against discrimination...

10. KENTUCKY.. More than a quarter of adults are regular smokers in Kentucky, the highest rate in the country. The state also has the nation's highest rate of cancer deaths and one of the highest rates of cardiovascular deaths...

9. (tie) NEW MEXICO... has one of the highest violent-crime rates in the country...

9. (tie) TENNESSEE... among the most violent in the country...with high rates of cancer and diabetes..

7. MISSISSIPPI... is one of only 5 states with no law protecting non-disabled people against discrimination...

6. INDIANA... lacks some basic protections against discrimination based on marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity...

5. MISSOURI... also lacks statewide protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, marital status, and gender identity. And the state is near the bottom for public health funding...

4. ARKANSAS... The natural state here: inactive, unhealthy, and crime-ridden.

3. OKLAHOMA... Heavy tobacco use — yes, Okies are smoky — contributes to one of the highest rates of premature death in the nation. The state has one of the worst infant mortality rates, and reported mental health issues are widespread. Despite that, Oklahoma ranks in the bottom five states for health insurance coverage.

2. LOUISIANA... this is America's fattest state. It is also among the most dangerous, with the nation's highest murder rate.

1. ALABAMA Sweet home? Not if you are over 50, a minority, gay or transgender and you are concerned about discrimination. Alabama is one of only five states with no statewide legal protections for those groups, making it one of America's least inclusive states. It is also one of America's least healthy states, with the nation's third-highest rate of premature deaths. On a positive note, the skies are blue and the governor's true.

And we here in Tennessee welcome all those businesses with open arms and no state income tax.

I’m in Knoxville, companies are relocating here like crazy. The company that owns HGTV is here now.

I’d take any of those states over liberal shithole states. Is this list a joke or something? Where is a state where some pasty faced politician ....like Bloomberg...wants to control your smoking, pop drinking, guns and every other personal habit. Will never forget or forgive those states that..for instance., forbade restaurant, bar and business owners from deciding for themselves whether to allow smoking or not. Not negotiable.

NM has a lot of drug problems in the SW portion of the state, the border with Mexico is virtually wide open. Luna and Hildago counties have their share of meth labs. If you travel through NM south of I-10, pack a pistol and rifle with you.

Don’t forget about our beautiful rivers and streams, especially Cotaco Creek, I spent five hours paddling the creek in my canoe today.

The compiler of this list certainly doesn’t like smokers. But they seem to love “pole smokers.”

I’m in Knoxville

I’ve lived in New York City all but 1 year of my nearly 60. But my late father, who met my Italian-American late mother in NY’s Central Park while on leave from the Navy, was from the Knoxville area. He was born in Maryville but grew up in Knoxville. Most of the relatives I knew lived in Knoxville. We used to go down every summer when I was a kid and spend two whole beautiful fun-filled months. Haven’t been back there since 1988.

When people ask me what nationality I am I say I'm half Italian, half Tennessean. :)

Hooray for the Yellowhammer State! Alabama stomped all the others!

We’re transplants from SoCal. Made the move to Knoxville two years ago—best thing we ever did. Very happy to be here.
