Teen Says Tattoo Covering Half His Face Is Making it Hard to Find Work
New York Post ^

Mark Cropp just wants to to get a job and support his family, but something unique is holding him back.

A giant tattoo saying “DEVAST8” covers half of his face, and, perhaps not surprisingly, it’s off-putting for potential employers.

The teenager, born in Oamaru in the southern part of the country, told the New Zealand Herald he had it inked a few months ago, while drunk on homebrew in a jail cell in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Nothing makes a formerly pretty woman look hard-featured & homely as arms & body coated with tats.
Just my opinion but I have seen women who appeared fairly attractive, to me, but once they bare their tattooed arms, or anything else, my opinion of them instantly changes to the negative. It just appears too unnatural.
As I said, just my opinion.

He could apply to the down under chapter of the Blue Man Group.

He has a judgement issue that is larger than his tattoo.

He should get a job learning how to do tattoos. That may be his only hope for employment - or get the thing removed. But, one thing is for certain ‘you can’t fix stupid’.

I used to think we generally do what is in our best interest. I told my brother that and he replied, “then why do I smoke?”

Got me thinking. We sabotage ourselves a lot. A lot of people are just under stress. I don’t think we were meant to live in extreme rat-race conditions of stressful commutes followed by hectic work days then race home to take the kids to soccer and karate.

Ever since women left the home and entered the workplace in great numbers, things have gotten really stressful. And inflation insured that we are now no better off. Now it just takes 2 incomes to accomplish what used to take one solid income.

But I get your point. Yes, a lot of intelligent people fall into traps that really hurt what could otherwise be happy lives. I do blame the stress and the lack of support these days.

Update: Job offers flood in for Mark Cropp despite his giant facial prison tattoo

A man who has been struggling to find a job because of his extensive prison facial tattoo has been inundated with job offers.

Mark Cropp shared his story with the Herald yesterday about how he wants to get off the dole, find a job, and put food on the table for his family.

...

One of the people to offer him a job is Douglas George Hebert, who owns scaffolding company PR Contracting.

Douglas George Hebert says he has experienced discrimination himself because of his tattoos.

He was happy to offer Cropp a labouring job paying $22 an hour.

"We've all made bad choices, doesn't mean we are bad people," says Herbert.

"I'm a big brown man covered in tattoos myself, and I have been on the receiving end of judgment from people who don't even know me."

Have seen a few of those. Pretty girl at my gym was gone for a while, came back with one arm covered wrist to shoulder. Stupid looking tattoo, guess it was a “tribute” to some woman. Face was supposed to have sunglasses I suppose, but came out looking like she had goggles on.

Bad enough to disfigure the arm but to do it with an ugly, poorly done “portrait”.

No, I will never understand women getting extensive tattoos. Never asked one and they would likely get pissed if an old guy did.

Yeesh. I guess he’s going to have to become a welder or a surgeon. Hope he’s got the academic chops! Oh, wait...

Guess he can be an old western bank robber or train bandit.

I have told young people for years that a great career choice is tattoo removal.

And ear lobe bobbing. Although, you'd probably have to have a plastic surgeon do that.
