Outside the theatre district, downtown Houston is a ghost town. It is so empty that most restaurants, including Burger King and Subway, don’t even open on Saturday and Sunday.

San Antonio is THE best vacation spot. A Sea World, the best Six Flags in the US, the greatest water park (Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels) in the US, the Alamo and the Missions, the famous River Walk, and more. So much more.

San Antonio is the best vacation city in Texas. No question about it.

Every time I had to go to the Houston area - this was when I lived in Dallas - I couldn’t wait to leave. The air just smelled moldy to me. Always thought that NOLA would be the same.

Texas women are perfect

Southern

I mean a Highland Park Dallas woman is likely no different than a Belle Meade Nashville or Buckhead Atlanta or Mountainbrook Birmingham well kept gal

But a ranch oriented Texas gal will be southern but much different

One of my premier loves now deceased unfortunately was a ranchers daughter from west of Abilene

Southern
Sweet and gracious

But just a little tough and spiney

Perfect in other words

Let’s be quiet about Rockport. It already gets too busy in the summer and Winter Texans make winter almost as bad. Port A has now become to busy and touristy in the summer, even though I love it, summer I try to only go to Port A midweek.

....." They have the best record in MLB.".....

They may even get to the play offs before they freeze up, but freeze up they will. Been there, done that, got the T shirt and sold it in Garage sale. I've moved on from pipe dreams. Life is too short to act like Cubs fans. Astro's may go all the way some year, but I will be doing something else while waiting a half century.

Prostate Cancer by Proton Center. So far so good. I'm 5 years out now. BTW, I recommend this treatment for anyone with cancer if it can be treated at the proton center. A friend I met there was a singer from Alabama that had jaw, throat, and neck involved. Told to go home and die once he refused hospital cutting off his jaw for maybe another year of life in Birmingham hospital. Came to the Proton Center in Houston, had about 40 treatments, went home in complete remission, still singing, and just spoke by phone a couple of months ago and he's still fine.

Most of the people I was in treatments with were told at home they were terminal. It seems home hospitals that don't own the equipment won't recommend you go somewhere else if they won't be getting the money. The apt complex I was staying in was packed with all types of cancer patients from all over the world that were told they were terminal. I only knew of one death while there. I try to be a free advertizement for MD Anderson whenever possible. You absolutely have the best chance of anywhere in the world by getting treated there, IMO. You might find yourself in a waiting room with some Arabian Sheik, or a movie star, or governor of a state that could afford to go anywhere in the world and they chose Houston. I'll be going back in Oct for my next check up. PSA never over 0.2. No side effects. My brother had the Xray treatment that radiated everything and it spread to his spine and lungs and he passed away about 4 years after that treatment. He also had to wear a diaper for most of that time. He would not go to MD Anderson. Said they make you into a faceless number. The only downside for the whole thing is Dr. Lee, that was the founder of the Proton Center has now moved on to Dallas. He wrote the procedure and designed the software that runs the machine. He was my personal doctor, but I suppose anyone that understands the treatment can design your personal treatment and set up the software to give the proper strength and placement of the proton beams. If MD Anderson isn't literally the best place in the world for treatment, it must be within the top 3. I hear good things about Cancer Treatment Centers, but don't personally know anyone that went there. They sound like they have cutting edge treatements, but it's probably pioneered by MD Anderson.

I spoke with one of my Bible study people that went there on Mothers Day and she said it was wonderful. I didn’t ask about the floors. It’s been years for me personally. I hear the lines are insane so I assume the floors are OK.

I agree about Rockport and Port A. We went back early this spring after not having gone for 3 years. Wayyyyyyyyyy too much traffic for my taste. Spaghetti Warehouse still has great food IMO but is way toooooo spiffy. Miss the old grass clad roof. Nothing is the same - must be getting old. LOL

M.D. ANDERSON is the #1 Cancer Center in the world.

People are not just a number at MDA. The doctors right down to the clerks are the most loving and caring medical professionals anywhere.

East Texas really can be pleasant and enjoyable, just not inland southeast Texas in the middle of summer, not for even me let alone someone from the northeast.

Hope you enjoy and post a thread of your experiences if you do go. Depending upon how
long you are staying, housing, transportation, etc. you may could expand your area a bit.
Example, San Antonio is less than a 4 hr drive from Houston. So depending upon time
availability you may could even schedule a couple of days there. It would be totally
different that Houston as much as night/day, imo.

M.D. Anderson is the #1 cancer center in the world. Cancer Treatment Centers is nowhere close to being a top cancer center. I’d stay away from them based on what some M.D. Anderson patients have told me after first going to CTA.

Also, to be fair, Loma Linda in CA was the first center to use proton therapy for cancer.

“You might find yourself in a waiting room with some Arabian Sheik,...

There was a Sheik who was treated at M.D. Anderson and donated $150 million to MDA.

One thing I’ve discovered by Freepers over the years is that if you ask for people’s opinions about a city or area, you will get all kinds of comments. If you do come to Houston and are not happy, please don’t judge we Texans based on that one encounter. Big cities are pretty much alike, regardless of which state you pick. Need to come down and go to other parts of our state, like the Hill Country. That is really what Texas is all about IMO.
