Netflix's ‘GLOW’ Character Justifies Abortion: ‘It’s Not the Right Baby’

Talk about skewed perspective. A new series is winning glowing media reviews after the lead character casually justifies an abortion by arguing it’s “not the right baby.”

Netflix’s GLOW takes its name from Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, a real life all-female wrestling series televised in the 80s. The fictionalized Netflix comedy, released Friday, stars actress Alison Brie as Ruth Wilder.

In the 8th episode, Wilder discovers she’s pregnant after sleeping with her best friend’s husband. Facing a promising career, she decides to end her unborn baby’s life. She asks her director, Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), to accompany her to the abortion clinic.

As Ruth signs in for her abortion appointment, the receptionist mistakes Sam for Ruth’s boyfriend – an opportunity he saw for humor. “I’m her husband,” he jokes. “Common mistake, you know, sort of like having sex without a condom, right?”

But he doesn’t stop there. “Just wasn’t the right time for us, you know? I could’ve pulled out, but I just got lazy,” he adds. “Lucky for us, we hate children. Right, honey?"

As they sat in the waiting room, Sam continues to lighten the mood. He offers to get donuts, and Ruth asks for “pink frosted.” He jokes again, “If you had liked pink things a little less, maybe we wouldn’t be here right now.”

The one time Sam becomes serious is when he checks with Ruth that “this is what you want.”

"Yeah,” she confirmed. “It’s not the right time. Not the right baby."

But then she starts joking too. “Don’t come back without donuts,” she reminds him when her name is called within minutes. “In Soviet Union, abortion is the only thing there’s no line for.”

Once in the operating room, with her feet in the stirrups, Ruth is questioned by the doctor. “You have considered all your options?” the doctor asks. “And you’re comfortable with the decision to end your pregnancy?”

When Ruth affirms, the doctor adds, “Now I’m going to give an injection next to your cervix that will numb your uterus, and then we’ll start the procedure. Now you’re going to feel a little pressure, okay? Does this all make sense?”

“I’m a wrestler,” Ruth replies, perhaps hinting that abortion isn’t that carefree after all – or maybe, ironically, even suggesting that she feels like there is no other “choice” because of her career.

As the abortion begins, the camera focuses on Ruth’s face, staring at a ceiling tile painted with the sky and clouds. It’s not a fun scene, although many in the media applauded it.

“It’s such a great example of how abortions are medical procedures women need, not nefarious murders of unborn babies,” applauded Ariana Romero for Refinery 29 of the scene that “wraps on an optimistic note.”

The Washington Post columnist Sarah MacLean called it “the most honest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Not surprisingly, GLOW’s executive producer, Jenji Kohan, rose to fame for her role in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black – a show that has also justified abortion in the past.

Got rid of Netflix after they were arrogant on raising their rates. Glad never got it back.

Netflix went full deviant on the Kevin Spacey president character this year. They paid huge $$ to feature leftist “comics” including Chelsea Handler. If anything Netflix veers sharply left. They got so many negative comments on some of their leftist shows, they took away the comments and now have a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Netflix cannot handle the truth.

That scene as described depicts the nefarious murder of a child.

Talk about convicting yourself our of your own mouth. The personification of the fake "Virtue of Selfishness." Sickening.

Alison Brie is known to have rather low morals - drugs, “nudist days in college”, pro-abortion, etc. What’s strange is that she laments the fact that everyone in Hollywood cheats on their spouses.

She’s very screwed up. But because she pretty and can act (and is incredibly permissive) she is Hollywood’s new darling.

People who say things like this are either dishonest or ignorant. The debate about abortion boils down to the question of when, exactly, do we become human beings? She can applaud all she wants, but killing a human being for personal comfort, convenience or gain is murder, and most of us disapprove of murder.

What’s sad is that the show was pretty good up until that part. They definitely captured an 80s vibe and there weren’t any digs on the right in general up until that abortion scene. I do recall them saying the character “Welfare Queen” was a “big F-you to the Republican party” ... can’t recall any trashing of Reagan outside of a joke about Nancy’s “Just Say No” campaign ... nothing “vicious” though).

What’s even more vulgar is that the scene was completely useless. They didn’t need to have her be pregnant. The character that was disgusted with her sleeping with her husband already couldn’t stand her. The guy that was with her at the clinic already had close relationship with her. It’s like the halfwit idiot that wrote the show threw it in there for shock value and nothing more.

It was totally pathetic and ruined an otherwise decent, retro show. I couldn’t even stand to watch the rest of it.

If it is a retro show I wonder if there was another reason to include this scene. The smug liberals feel that the masses need to “understand” the new morality. They may have felt that the audience they were attracting needed some time at re-education camp.

A good friend of mine got pregnant accidentally with her steady back when she was 19 and had an abortion. Now she's 35 with no man in her life and desperate for a child. Life - God? - just comes back to kick you sometimes.

Just another one of the millions of ways that radical, man-hating feminazis are controlling the way we think.

No, God does not ‘kick’ you! We all must endure the consequences of our actions, good and bad. God loves ALL His creation but allows us free will to make our own choices.

His hand is visible in all of Creation. It is up to us to decide if we are willing to believe and follow, or not. Your choice ... and her’s ... and everyone’s.

“The smug liberals feel that the masses need to “understand” the new morality.”

I’m sure that’s part of it. The liberal twit that created the show also created Weeds and Orange is the New Black. Both shows started out good, but went flying off the tracks early on and weren’t anything resembling good by the end of their second and first seasons respectively.

Everything I saw after those seasons was nothing more than liberal rants, liberal’s views of what religious people are like, and stupid shock-value schtick (i.e. we ran out of innovative ways to tell a story, so let’s just shock the audience).

Only reason any of her shows catch my attention is due to the unique premise of the story ... but the end result has always been disappointment and disgust.

I’m done with Netflix after this though ... I am completely sick and tired of funding garbage like this even if it’s only ~ $100 a year. I know the twit that runs Amazon is almost as bad, but that “almost” will win vs. funding Netflix’s trash.

Moreover, I used to get the biggest kick out of seeing virtually all of the liberal comedian/documentary ratings with one or two stars ... as another Freeper mentioned, they had to do away with that since the various elites of their church were getting a bit angry.

“They may have felt that the audience they were attracting needed some time at re-education camp.”

That scene certainly had the exact opposite effect on me :-).

I recently watched a documentary on G.L.O.W. on Netflix- no idea if it’s still on there. It turned out to be quite good, with some genuinely touching parts. The show was unbelievably cheesy, of course, but a lot of those women had a genuine affection for each other, and it shows.

Yeah, well the Frank Underwood character has been a murderer since season one and is a southern Democrat with an ambitious wife who always planned on being president after him. Not so loosely based on the Clintons, so I'm not sure that's evidence of leftist propaganda. Pretty everyone in DC are scumbags in that show. Just like real life.
