California is embarrassing the rest of the country with the amount of solar energy it's producing

California is the poster child for solar energy: in 2016, 13% of the state's power came from solar sources. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, California is in the lead for the cumulative amount of solar electric capacity installed in 2016.

In fact, the California is generating so much solar energy that it is resorting to paying other states to take the excess electricity in order to prevent overloading power lines. According to the Los Angeles Times, Arizona residents have already saved millions in 2017 thanks to California’s contribution.

And that’s why the out of control still melting down reactors at Dai-Ichi power plant in Japan are no problem, right?
It’s been 6 full years and they can’t even get robots to function in such a radioactive environment in order to help fix the situation. Is this what you’re referring to?
Why the news blackout?

Like I said: It is not very smart to build nuclear plants in areas well noted for their excessive seismic activity.

Iowa gets 33 percent of its power from wind turbines.

Idiots
Out
Walking
Around

That's Iowa! And the same problem that California has - wind peak energy doesn't align with peak energy needs.

So hey IOWA - where are you storing the energy from the wind for use during non peak hours, huh?

What is the formula behind that number? In layman's terms, please (consumption, production, potential, etc.).

Average Price of Electricity to Ultimate Customers by End-Use (Residential):

California: 18.87
National Ave (including AK & HI): 12.90

Boy, they are geniuses in California!

And obviously the California voters have approved of this situation at the ballot box, and will continue to do so.

The table at the wiki site implies that it is total electric generation. I suspect Iowa generates more than it uses. It came out to 20,000 gwhr in 2016 and we are way ahead of that this year. Considering the last 3 days of trying to ride a motorcycle and the wind almost making it impossible we might be in for quite a wind power year. It's nice that the wind often blows hardest in the afternoon when demand is up.

PS watchout for trolls.

Hah. Did you try riding your bicycle? Every day was a tale of two rides (headwinds on the way out, tailwinds on the way back)!

No but two of my daughters did 50 miles in training for Ragbrai(sp). They intended to do 75 but couldn't due to the wind.

75 miles?! HFS.

Then again, I did 83.75... over those 3 days! LOL

My left foot and “seat” keep me from doing 40 anymore. I can’t imagine doing a day of RAGBRAI, much less the whole thing.

Me either unless I had a much more efficient bike and maybe a pair of better legs.
