Her father is another “Yinzer” (Pittsburgh native) from Squirrel Hill. He’s the bearded white guy playing accoustic guitar in the video i linked.
i understand that Maya sings pretty well too...when she wants to.
Closest thing there is to Minnie is Mariah Carey, but still not that close.
People like Maya...once upon a time we called them “trust fund hippies”. Haven’t a clue about how the world really works, and their parents insulated them from finding out.
A shame really. She (Maya) is a really pretty woman.
Me too. Range like no one else. Saw her in concert last year. Still fantastic!
Well Darren was brought up in a pretty strict, Christian home. He was very familiar with Sandi Patty. I believe he took the album "Morning Like This ", and I'm pretty sure the song he played was " Love In Any Language", a good, "generic" song, that a secular person would like.
Well the music teacher wasn't a Christian.
This guy had numerous books on playing numerous instruments.
When I was in Jr High, he'd always be in the halls, playing different instruments.
He had won numerous awards for music and teaching, at the state and national levels.
He LOVED music.
And he LOVED teaching people music.
All types of music and instruments.
The way I understand it, the teacher would only play 1 song from each student's album, but was so impressed he played another. (Probably "Was It A Morning Like This")
He listened with mouth open, slightly shaking his head, I think in disbelief.
Disbelief that a Jr High kid listened to something like that.
And disbelief that someone sounded like that.
IIRC, he borrowed the album for a few days.
I do know, that several days later, he had told Darren, that he had bought several of Sandi's albums.
She has just retired from touring.
She now manages or supports her daughter's career.
What a gift she had/has.
oops! Haven’t had my coffee yet. lol I get it now. Biologically she IS female.

Annie Lennox
Lena Horne
Chrissy Hines ( recipiant of special torch award.)
Kate Pierson of the B-52’s.
Bjork.
Shirley Manson.
Ditto this. The absolute best I have ever heard. Period.
I can’t believe that I forgot about Annie Haslam. I LOVE Renaissance, and she may still be touring.
Another terrific voice i Aimee Lee, and Aimee Mann has a unique voice, but not in Annie Haslam’s class.

Kate Pierson (B-52s)
Marilyn McCoo (5th Dimension)
Karen Carpenter
Pure power - Pat Benetar
Gaga has a MUCH better voice than Madonna, that is for sure.
Will do...
Thanks!
Yes, Karen, the sad voice of an angel who could not deal with life.
The first time I saw Lady Gaga in a video, I thought, “Wow, I saw this in the 1980s, with Dale Bozzio in “Missing Persons.”
It wasn’t until I saw a video of Stefani Germanotta in her pre-Gaga days, thinking, “hey, she’s a pretty darned talented singer-songwriter”

And as Gaga:

With Tony Bennett:

If you can get past her outrageousness, she’s pretty awesome... and just WOW!

That would be LeAnn Rimes. A nice voice for sure. She was 13 when she recorded "Blue"
