Mayors Ready to Act on Paris Climate Accord Without Federal Government

WASHINGTON – New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D), vice president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, described the group’s “collective opinion” on withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord as a “shortsighted political decision” that is going to “negatively impact” U.S. economic growth.

Landrieu said that President Trump’s “America First” outlook, which fueled his decision to withdraw from the climate agreement, should not mean “America Only.”

“Although we are spending a lot of time talking about ‘America First,’ while many of us may agree with that, it cannot be ‘America Only’ – the feeling about this is the decision to withdraw from the agreement pits environmental protection against economic growth, but we think this is a false choice,” Landrieu told reporters on a conference call last Friday.

“We think that, in fact, withdrawing from the climate agreement is not going to safeguard American industry. It’s going to actually cost us jobs,” he added.

It is unconstitutional to enter into such agreements or pacts without the consent of Congress.

Have they made the billions of dollars in payments that Obama committed us to?

This is just ridiculous. Let’s all drop down to City Hall and ask the Mayor what he or she thinks about the “Paris Climate Accords” and be prepared to be laughed out of the building.

The Democrats are literally scraping the bottom of the political barrel to find some support. Any support. At all.

These mayors will soon learn how soon the feed trough will be no more and the gravy train will be a pipe dream from too much pot. These piggies will go “Wee! Wee!” all the way home.

Bt all means, city mayors in blue isolated areas, punish your citizens more and deplete your own coffers.

The Logan Act basically prohibited individuals from negotiating with foreign governments, such as Tom Hayden agreeing to carry out Hanoi’s plans for getting Congress to cut aid to So. Vietnam.

Whether it would apply to cities/officials or not is something that should be further explored.

Now this agreement was a U.N. agreement so maybe only a country/president/leader could agree to it or to sign it. Obama never signed it, or so I’m told but agreed to abide by its terms since IT WAS NOT A TREATY that had to be ratified by the Senate (one of Comrade Obama’s round-about ways of ignoring Congress).

And more people will flee big cities leaving them more poor and crime laden, but in 100 years, they might be 0.017 cooler.

I’m just wondering where the billions of dollars that Paris obligates the US to spend? Surely all of these mayors plan on living up to the financial obligations as well as the, well, really meaningless ‘goals’ contained in the agreement, right?

After all, that was the entire point of the Paris agreement - a backhanded attempt to usurp both the House’s financial controls and the senatorial concurrence on US foreign spending. Surely all these mayors wouldn’t stiff all those economies in need of funds to reach climate goals - that would be racist, right?

Defund them. No citizen tax money, federal or local, should be used to enforce and support that language of other nations

“Good, Mr. Mayor(s)...if you’ve got that much extra money to throw away, the Feds will just cut your allotments by the same amounts.”

Should be amusing to see what this does to local budgets.

I like it when Mayors/Governors, etc., decide to go after what they want w/o the Federal Government robbing the people to pay for it - it has a way of self-correcting when the local citizens get fed up with paying for every liberal whim and watching their money go down the toilet.

Implementing the Paris climate change treaty was going to cost the US several TRILLION dollars. We will see how the property owners and taxpayers of these cities and states like having their taxes go up to support these virtue signaling Democratic politicians.

“Waiter, what is this $7.51 ‘CC’ surcharge on my bill?”

“Well, you had a steak, your wife had the salmon fillet, and your children each had a hamburger. The city requires that we purchase carbon credits to offset our use of wood fired grill and other non-green cooking appliances. We are a business, so we have to pass our costs on to you as a surcharge.”

“Is this surcharge just on food?”

“Oh no. Almost everything in (fill in the blank with the green city of your choice) now has a CC surcharge. I hear there is even a CC surcharge on parking tickets to pay for police department carbon offsets.”

“Is that the reason why we were only able to rent electric cars at the airport? To cut down the business ...ah, CC surcharge costs? “

“(Chuckles) No. That is state mandated. Big program with the state subsidizing the conversion. The rental companies complained but fell in line for the most part. Heck, it’s just another pass through to them. The real problem was all the charging stations that had to be installed all over the city. The utility company is way behind in getting them installed and charging an electric vehicle takes much, much longer than refilling a gas tank.”

” I’ll say. When we are out, I have to constantly monitor the charge and look for parking spaces that also have charging stations. PAY charging stations, I might add. Well, at least the hotel parking spaces all have charging stations.”

“You pay for them three times.”

“Three times?”

“Yes. The energy you use is added to your room charge. Then there is a thing they call an “infrastructure improvement fee” to pay for putting in the charging stations. And the CC surcharge, of course.”

“Of course. Well, thank you for taking time to explain.”

“You’re welcome. We actually get asked about the CC charge a lot, so we’ve had to study up on it. Are you ready to pay?”

If Landrieu wants to talk about shortsightedness maybe he need only look in the mirror. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what this so-called man-caused “climate change” is really about. President Trump did exactly the right thing;maybe should have gone a little further.

How do cities act alone in following the Paris Accord?

Will New Orleans send money to the UN Green Fund?

Will the city set it’s own Paris Accord emissions standards?

At a Trillion dollars or so over 10 years, that would mean $3,000 for every man, woman, and child. DC can simply print it...these locals cannot. Unless they have some magic way to come up with the money, everything they say on the subject is meaningless.

Well, I’m thinkin’ it’s time for the folks in Baton Rouge to officially disown New Orleans. Thought I read someplace the statue removal costs were over $2 million. That money could have been spent on fighting climate. And there is plenty of climate in New Orleans. I will never visit there again and it would be nice to see a YUGE drop in revenue next Mardi Gras but that probably ain’t gonna happen.
