“The problem I see with comics is that they arent comics any longer...”
Superman has been around longer than Donald Duck. (by one year)
Didn’t they go gay?
1950s TV shows were great as the cartoons were the best quality from the 1930s-1960s. Popeye, Bosco, Bugs Bunny, Heckle and Jeckle, The best the studios, WB, MGM, King Features, Terrytoons. had to offer.
Then they went to crap with cheap animation from the Hanna and Barbara garbage factory. When H&B made cartoons for MGM they were GREAT!
Disney still made great cartoons then he had the audacity to die in 1966. His cartoon legacy slowly began to fade.
I was never a Marvel fan. I liked DC comixs.
We thought along the same lines, it seems...I loved the Classics Illustrated....
Remember when Plastic man got arrested for pretending to be the real Plastic man? Everyone knew Plastic was just an imitation of the real thing, so the man who could stretch was the imposter!
I think that was in an early edition of MAD or some spoof comic.
Tom and Jerry Cartoons from the 1940s were the best ever.
Just appreciate the use of the background music with the action. Just pure brilliance.
I think I recently read they are bringing it back for another season. Filming starts this summer. Look for season 2 next year.
Maybe Disney paved the way for them. There are probably a lot of books about the Disney characters and stories as well as toys, and they may make more money than the movie, but they're secondary, and the film is the main event.
Mid 60’s, I started reading Ian Fleming’s James Bond books...
I kinda put comic books aside around 1962-63...
A good romantic interest is good though.
“The real reasons for Marvel Comics’ woes”
1. Corporate greed.
2. Corporate stupidity.
3. Corporate tone-deafness towards customers.
4. Corporate cluelessness of what customers want.
5. Corporation trying to jam “social consciousness and diversity” down unwilling customers’ throats.
6. Corporate cluelessness of the consequences of pushing their customers away towards the bazillions of alternative entertainment venues available to everyone.
“I really enjoyed Luke Cage on Netflix.”
me too, until they killed off “Pops” and “Cottonmouth”; after that it was so lame i gave up.
It’s the rule.
See the NBA v. WNBA. People tune in to watch Steph, not Stephanie. LeBron, not LaBronda.
People want Superman, not Junior Varsity Not-Sure-He’s-A-Man.
They actually made a muslim female superhero too.
In archie comics, archie took a bullet for a new character that takes other things you know where. They are so out of touch with reality it’s unbelievable.
And they wonder why their sales are down? They have tried to destroy all the classic characters that have been around for a long time that a lot of people loved growing up.
I used to be a big comic fan when I was younger. I grew up wanting to be a comic/cartoon artist.
“I really enjoyed Luke Cage on Netflix.”
I actually didn’t, but I loved Jessica Jones!
“People tend to oppose rewriting or modernizing ‘classics’ — whether classic comic characters or Shakespearean classics. “
That’s why I stopped watching Supergirl. I really liked Melissa Benoist in the role but Jimmy Olsen wasn’t a self assured, big black guy and supergirl’s sister wasn’t a lesbian.
Well I know that the comics and comic books are separate, but Marvel has the best running series of movies in their movie universe and they fail to capitalize on it.
New potential fans see Iron Man and are treated by new characters that don’t interest them.
Muslim girl replacing iconic characters doesn’t sell and the idiots blame the fans. Captain America is now a Nazi stooge is just stupid timing in the comics.
Female Thor (WTF) doesn’t cut it. Seriously, why aren’t they making more tie ins to the mega grossing movies??
I’ll take DC Comics Sgt Rock or Unknown Soldier. They were sort of a mix of Inglorious Basterds, Indiana Jones, and Castle Wolfenstein. Not superhero material, but great comics.
