Always felt when the industry went direct only and moved away from the newsstand that they were cutting their own throats. Been a downhill move in volume since then.

Should have continued both instead of concentrating on only the direct market.

Plus, the way they keep these things going so long is by having Superman and Lois Lane never quite get together -- or not for very long.
In the comics, they've managed to "get together".

I did not see Superman listed as best selling.

That is because they made him into a wuss.

I am disgusted by sodomites. They are deserving of capital punishment according to Leviticus 20:13, not my patronage. (This is not a popular position today, but it is the righteous one.)

Any company that promotes this filth deserves the ash heap.

Check the Marvel leaders’ asses for consumer bite marks. Hurts like hell and goes Negan on the bottom-line. GOOD.

Comic books and pro wrestling are facing the same problem: the fans the are selling to think they know more (and in some cases do know more) than the people producing the product.

And you are narrowcasting to that specific group. In the 70s, you were hoping to extract $5 a month from 10 million people. Today, you are hoping to extract $500 a month from 500,000 people.

The problem is that you can get into a downward spiral and alienate your entire audience really really quickly.

The best stuff is well the original creation and storyline of Spiderman by Stan Lee. Second place goes to the Chris Claremont years with the X-men. I am right now working my way through all that material. Have never read any of the new stuff.

“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity,” David Gabriel, the company’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, told an interviewer at the summit. “They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not ...

I don't think that's what they really heard. Female superhero characters have a long history. I think what they really heard was that customers weren't interested in trans/gay characters, Muslim superheroes, etc. No diversity for the sake of diversity.

DC weathers the test of time much better because it is set in a fictional universe. The corruption and crime syndicates that Daredevil was fighting in the 70s and 80s was a New York of times past. Rudy cleaned up New York and nationally crime is at historic lows, so it is hard to wrap one’s mind around Punisher, DD, ect…

She is good in that but horribly miscast as Mystique. There is just something about her in that role that grates me.

My wife and I cannot even broach this topic anymore. I take the hard stance like you, and she thinks I am crazy about the slippery slope to man-dog-pig marriages.

Good point. The whole idea of a comic book is to be escapist. To portray a fantasy world of heroes and villians. Good guys and bad guys and the decency and righteousness of ‘’The American Way. Contrary to what the ‘’social justice warriors’’ say kids aren’t stupid. They’re want escapist entertainment that appeals to them. Not lectures from self-righteous gits about stuff they inherently know to be wrong.

Got to love the hot girls from the Hellfire Club. Those pictures must have caused a lot of confusion for boys at that time.

FWIW, I actually wasn't into marvel/dc comics when I grew up in the 80s. But out of a sense of nostalgia I am really into them now. Late 70s and 80s is where Batman really grew up, leaving the silliness of the decades before. And love the Xmen of the 1980s. Spiderman was great right from the get go. Don't care for Lee's politics, but he had a very creative mind when you consider what he created.
