VANITY: I need academic advice
http://www.nope.com ^ | Self

I had a professor this semester who is a community organizer from Chicago (I kid you not). He was utterly worthless, I am one of a number of students who reported him for being worthless, and he hates me (because he always did and) because the administration has evidently cracked down on him.

He holds a chokehold over EVERY student in my discipline, since every student will have to take this ONE professor for one worthless (waste of money), but required course.

What do I do? This is so wrong. So very very heinously wrong. He is so worthless, and so transparently partisan, yet he gets to pick winners and losers, and I am going into debt for this degree!

This is a Republican area. With a Republican alumnus base, and a Republican legislature. I am in absolute despair and am utterly depressed. Please give me advice.

See if you can take that class at another school? Record the class every day then post the loony leftist highlights to youtube and link them here.

What is your field of study, and why are you incurring debt to study it?

I checked that already, this is unique to this school, so I can’t.

Suck it up buttercup.
Finish the course. Tell him what he wants to hear. Avoid any personal interaction or any extraneous interaction. Forget about seeking justice or revenge, Just get through it. you already screwed the pooch by making an enemy of someone who has power over you for just a short time.
One college course is not a hill to die on.
Welcome to the real world.
If this was a job, I’d give you the same advice while telling you to be looking for a new job real hard and quietly

I have been around college professors for many years. If you transfer to another school, you may find the same problem-academia is full of these folks. My advice is to do whatever you have to do to pass the class, but go on to the Rate My Professor website and express your concerns after you get your grade.

You say you HAD this teacher, so are you done with the class? What happened? Do you need to take another one from him? Does he have some kind of veto within the department?

I suppose you could wait until you are just a few credits short of a degree then transfer to a different university. Or maybe take an equivalent class somewhere else and transfer the credit. No guarantee that the teacher there won’t be a commie too though.

Or you could wait and see what happens, and get a lawyer if he blocks you without cause.

Is it really a vital class or just an annoying, required check mark? You might be able to get your academic advisor to approve an alternative class.

Learn to speak his language. Write up your papers to please him. Gain his trust. Our side needs more practice infiltrating their ranks. They will be much easier to defeat from within.

As long as there are no taxpayer funds being used in accruing that debt - fine.

I still say Trump is negligent and remiss in not ending ALL federal funding of colleges and universities and ceasing the student loan programs immediately.

Actually that is the range of choices, there is a bounded rationality here, quit or get through it. He is distressed to the point it doesn’t sound like he can get through it, so he should quit. Not trying to be flip but there really aren’t very many options.

Have you honestly assessed your earning potential after having earned that English degree against your earning potential without it? Have you assessed the possibility that a different major field of study would give you the same or better opening into whatever career field (graphic design?) you’re seeking to enter?
