Since when did people start going to college to get stupid?

Good question.  Amazingly, it was a line in a new network television program, Chicago Justice, another in the long list of Dick Wolf-produced crime-legal shows.  Carl Weathers of Rocky fame speaks the line; he plays the district attorney of Chicago.  It was shocking to hear the question uttered in a prime-time drama.  Of course there was a murder in this television episode, and the murderer turned out to be a young girl besotted with her radical leftist, anti-gun professor.  Her victim?  A pro-gun conservative on their campus.

Real life these days is stranger than fiction.  Even Orwell could not have imagined how far we have surpassed all he imagined in 1984 – especially on college campuses.  Higher education in America has been utterly destroyed by the left since the tenured radicals of the 1960s took control of it.  Now our campuses are virtually totalitarian in nature.  Stanford just admitted an applicant who is not black but who wrote "Black Lives Matter" a hundred times on his application.  Forget all the serious students who took the application question – "What matters to you and why?" – seriously.  They are toast, cast upon the funeral pyre of diversity and freedom of thought in favor of the anti-merit (racist), pro-ethnic diversity but anti-diversity of thought mindset of college admissions officials.

Wellesley has demeaned itself by printing a fascist screed by a student who writes poorly and has not a clue about what our Constitution says or means.  She is opposed to freedom of speech.

Not being content to merely be stupid, some need a diploma certifying them as such.

College is just a continuation of the stupid slide indoctrinated in government schools.

I worked at a certain university in Cambridge, MA in the 1980s. There was a series of observations that multiple people made at the time:

Due to very selective criteria, the 18-year-olds who arrived on campus were noticeably smart. Bright-eyed, eager, curious, hungry to excel beyond their already notable accomplishments.

The students working on a Master’s degree were a little dim. Jaded. Challenging to talk to because they interrupted and corrected people — often despite the fact that they knew nothing about the subject under discussion.

The students working on their doctorates were idiots. Angry. Unreasonable. No one wanted to talk with them because it was so darn frustrating trying to make simple concepts clear to them.

A College Student:

Sophomoric

1:  conceited and overconfident of knowledge but poorly informed and immature.

2:  lacking in maturity, taste, or judgment.

In Latin: wise-fool

People who never experience real deprivation, hunger, physical combat, or existential threat, but instead are pampered, fed by others and taught to constantly seek self gratification are not the stuff of greatness.

Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution (often referred to as The Theory of Survival of the Fittest) describes the positive effects resulting from any “pressure” on an animal species that removes the least fit among the species and allows only the most fit of the species to reproduce. Many of us are well aware of this “Survival of the Fittest” theory, but few are aware that Darwin also makes mention of the negative effects resulting from unlimited reproduction of a species’ least fit when the weak, the lazy, and the stupid are left unchecked.

We like to think otherwise, but our species, Homo sapiens-sapiens, isn’t that long “out of the trees” and the same laws of nature that affect all of God’s creatures apply equally to us. If we were to observe any other species that had been allowed to reproduce without limitations, we would know immediately what the consequences will be.

Whenever the weak; lazy; and stupid of a species are allowed to reproduce unimpeded by predators that feed off the weak; lazy; and stupid, they soon outnumber the strong, productive, and intelligent. When the weak/lazy/stupid dominate the gene pool, the entire population becomes weak/ lazy/stupid, then the population collapses, and we, my friends, are currently on the cusp of one of these collapses.

My favorite was the recently minted Stanford MBA grad who wanted Shark Tank money to get her new business going.

When Kevin O’Leary mentioned her high valuation, she proceeded to lecture Mr. Wonderful and told the self-made multi-millionaire “that’s not how business is done.”

the response.

I’m out
I’m out
I’m out
I’m out
I’m out You’re dead to me.

Book smart, reality stupid.

There is truly an art to starting a business... and a ton of luck for it to be successful.

But, she read a book...and has an MBA...From Stanford.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I have a friend who started a computer/phone repair business. He’s busy beyond belief. He’s needed hernia surgery for about year and every time he tries to schedule it, he gets a whopper contract for video camera’s or something like that.

He’s got a bunch of employees but he’s married to the business.

Another friend is a remodeler. Does well, but it’s always a struggle. Employees seem to be his biggest problem. My son worked for him for two summers while in college and my buddy said he was the best employee he’s ever had. He feigned anger when he found out my kid got a job in his major while still a junior and wouldn’t be coming back to work for him.

Sometimes you just luck into stuff. I knew a guy who was selling dental equipment or something like that. A customer asked if he knew anyone who sold acoustic damping mats. He said, “Sure, I do as a side business.” He made up a company name on the fly and then went home, looked up what acoustic mats were, found a place to order them and began his business. When I knew him about 20 years ago, it was a multi-million dollar business.

I agree.... I work at a university and grad students are almost totally incapable of functioning with any sense of reason and objectivity.

Organizing a simple 5 person event is a major effort and usually complicated by numerous and completely avoidable problems like miscommunicated facts, failure to note details and contingencies, delays, duplication of effort, failure to document or convey basic and relevant facts, ignorance and misuse of resources... and there is a tremendous amount of fixing-up (BY ME)to make it work in the end.

I go through this DAILY.

I will say too, that none of them has any conception of HOW accounting works... it's inconceivable to them why and HOW the pizza for their ‘event’ appears AT the event or HOW and by whom it will be paid for. Something THAT simple is beyond their capabilities. These people are near graduation and will have Ph.D. after their names..... scary.
