There is truly an art to starting a business... and a ton of luck for it to be successful.

But, she read a book...and has an MBA...From Stanford.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I have a friend who started a computer/phone repair business. He’s busy beyond belief. He’s needed hernia surgery for about year and every time he tries to schedule it, he gets a whopper contract for video camera’s or something like that.

He’s got a bunch of employees but he’s married to the business.

Another friend is a remodeler. Does well, but it’s always a struggle. Employees seem to be his biggest problem. My son worked for him for two summers while in college and my buddy said he was the best employee he’s ever had. He feigned anger when he found out my kid got a job in his major while still a junior and wouldn’t be coming back to work for him.

Sometimes you just luck into stuff. I knew a guy who was selling dental equipment or something like that. A customer asked if he knew anyone who sold acoustic damping mats. He said, “Sure, I do as a side business.” He made up a company name on the fly and then went home, looked up what acoustic mats were, found a place to order them and began his business. When I knew him about 20 years ago, it was a multi-million dollar business.
