Cassini flew just 25,620 miles (41,230 kilometers) from the pockmarked moon Jan. 30, on the spacecraft's seventh and final flyby of the moon. Due to a massive crater on one side, Mimas is known as the "Death Star" moon but this time, that crater is out of view. (Another recent Cassini photo, from a November flyby, highlights the giant Herschel crater.)
During the flyby, Cassini captured 10 images from about 28,000 miles (45,000 km) away that were combined into a mosaic. More than half the moon was lit only by reflected light from Saturn one image has that side enhanced, to give a fuller view of the moon, and the other leaves it in shadow. Researchers combined the images from Cassini's narrow-angle camera to create a view like the one an observer would have seen through a powerful telescope, NASA officials said...
... Cassini wraps up its exploration of Saturn's system, begun in 2004. After a series of close flybys of the planet's rings, it will take a final plunge into the planet's atmosphere Sept. 15.

And all it got was this lousy T-shirt!
Wow, it has seen many meteorite impacts!
I’ll bet that Moon wasn’t very popular in High School, and the Jocks and Cheerleaders were MEAN to him! ;)
We live in the MOST amazing Universe; it’s mind-boggling that we can even GET pictures like this!
Unless, you know, they’re FAKED or something. ;)

Exactly!
Now I’m wondering if maybe the Ancient Aliens are into the production of golfing equipment.
Many of NASA’s images today are composites. Stacking images and then creating art.
Even on Earth people are layering 48 images together and calling it A picture.
They sometimes call it a Birth Certificate, too
That’s what most of the middle east and norther Africa should look like.
Rebuild it with humans, not pious barbaric animals.
Makes us appreciate more the garden planet we live on...

Conspiracy Debunked: NASA Photoshops Images for Good Reason
By Mike Wall, Space.com Senior Writer | October 15, 2010 12:43pm ET
Conspiracy theorists are abuzz over the revelation that a recent NASA photo was touched up before being released to the public.
But this is not news, or evidence that the space agency has something to hide. NASA routinely processes raw images to enhance details, or to visualize things the human eye could never see, agency officials have said. Other space agencies, and many astronomers, do the same thing.
Such editing lets scientists and the public gain a better understanding of the structure of celestial objects and a better appreciation of their beauty.

The photograph: NASA’s “Blue Marble” series has delighted space lovers with photos of the Earth from above since the first image was taken aboard Apollo 17 in 1972. Since then, the U.S. space agency has regularly added to its collection with new iconic images of our cloud-wrapped planet. On Wednesday NASA unveiled its latest photo, “Blue Marble 2012,” calling it the “most amazing high-definition image of Earth ever taken.” (Have a look at right and below or click here for an ultra high-res version.) Captured by the $1.5 billion Suomi NPP orbital satellite, the stunningly detailed image is actually a composite stitched together from photos collected as the satellite flew around the planet four times on January 4. The many photos were then digitized into a single image, with the goal of reflecting Earth in its true colors.
The reaction: Our planet looks “impossibly beautiful,” says Robert T. Gonzalez at io9. But the photograph, “gorgeous as it is, is actually too beautiful to be real” after all, it’s a fake, “technically speaking.”
