Need Help - Birth Certificate - Stuttgart, Germany
Self

Posted on 03/17/2017 6:41:50 AM PDT by Lawgvr1955

Wife gravely ill and only treatment available is in Europe. She was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1958 as her Army father was stationed there and she came to the US as literally a "babe in arms". Her birth certificate is lost and I cannot get her a Passport. Working with the State Dept, etc., is frustrating and so far getting me nowhere. Any Freepers have advise? Bless you.

Based on what little information you provided, I am guessing your wife is a natural born US citizen. If that is the case she will need a "Consular Report of Birth Abroad" (CRBA, or Form FS-240)

If that is the case, don't call any German bureaucrats. They can't help you.

I looked at the State Department website and it is quite maddening to find instructions on how to order a FS-24, but on the State Department website they provide a link to a company that will pull that information for a fee. Given that your situation sounds urgent it may be worth paying this company to do an expedited hard pull of the required documents. Inserting your Congressman or Senator into the process may slow things down a bit.

Prayers offered.

Contact your congressman, they can be of great help in cases like this.
Good luck.

I might be able to help with this one. I was born in Heidleberg (can’t spell it)in 1959. My dad was in the service. When I went to apply for a passport, I discovered I’d lost all my birth records. I contacted the county where I lived with my parents when I applied for my SS number. My father had registered my birth in that county and they had all the forms from the government and a copy of the original BC.

Also, I have a certified original BC from the German hospital, as well. It’s been a long time and I don’t remember the exact steps I took. First I called one of the local congressional offices to find out whom I needed to contact. I don’t recall it costing much or taking a long time to receive it.

Prayers for healing!

Just curious, but what medical procedure is only available in Germany? Perhaps it can be found here the the good ol US?

likely born at a military hospital, so the best place would be DOD. How ever in terms of time, I’d contact my local federal congress critter to try to get a work around based on her dad’s info. HMU private with what her med issue is. There are very few “therapies” available in Europe that were not developed in the USA. clinicaltrials.gov

Contact your congressman's office, and your senator's offices too. They can light a fire under the bureaucrats. They may have a local office nearby also.

Having been in a somewhat comparable situation, I see this as the best advice. A Congressman can make this work when no government drone sees any urgency.

Thank you. Not sure if she was born in a military hospital. The medicine that she needs won’t be approved in the US for another 8 or so months. It is approved in Switzerland. Have contacted my congressman.

Thank you. I wasn’t aware that her German BC could be in a local US county. Will check!

Can’t speak German. I contacted the US Army Garrison in Stuttgart and they referred me to a German website. But I’m having trouble with it. Thank you for your help.

Bless you, my friend! Perhaps I will need to contact you. I have been given some Stuttgart sites to get info but haven't heard back. It is after all nearly midnight there now and the week end.

Your offer has provided me a degree of relief should the things in the works fail. I am most grateful!

I was stationed South East of Stuttgart (Neu Ulm) in the early 80’s. We traveled to Stuttgart numerous times. The three army posts that I remember were Kelly Barracks, Patch Barracks, and Robinson Barracks. Robinson Barracks was the largest post and probably had the hospital. Kelly and Patch were small and may have had only a clinic. Hope this helps you, good luck

May God bless all of you for your prompt and helpful suggestions in my hour of need regarding my wife's German birth certificate!! You gave me great comfort with ways to solve my difficulty and made me realize that I was not alone.

This afternoon I managed to locate in a deteriorating wooden box we had in storage for decades the original papers which had been lost since the 80s.

Freepers are the most knowledgeable people on the planet and seem always ready to help a fellow in need!!

Special thanks go out to Moltke, a Freeper living in Stuttgart who offered to personally go seek the documents I desperately needed. Bless you my friend!! And God bless Free Republic!!

I am happy that the problem was solved in such a straightforward way. The tone of relief in your message is palpable - heaving to deal with a serious health issue and then that on top, no one needs that.

Like I told you in my earlier private reply, I once had the good fortune to receive help from strangers in a similar, though not nearly so serious, matter. Thought I’d offer my help likewise.
